Hey everyone, in my school today we have a kind of workshop set up for 2 days called "Business Dynamics" in which people from different backgrounds of employment come to talk to us and simulate an assessment centre for recruitment. They briefly mentioned that IBM will sponsor some people from the school to go to Uni and on completion, land a job with them.

Should i dedicate an undetermined amount of years of my life to IBM or go to Uni on my own and find potentially a better/well payed job in IT?

I'd go for it TBH, you'd be surprised how many people dedicate an undetermined amount of years TRYING to get to a job at IBM;)

You have more to gain by being sponsored by them rather than by doing it yourself, give it a go, what have you got to lose?

Go for it - there used to be an Arthur Anderson scholarship scheme (not sure if Accenture carried it on or not) but IIRC you could have got out of it at the end anyway - I don't think they can force you to work for them.

Might as well get IBM to pay for uni and do some summer work with them then if you decide to go for a better paid job at a bank or something then take that instead.

Go for it, fantastic opportunity, especially if its a career path you are considering in the future.

I would. Cant see any reason why not. People try so hard to get in at IBM, even if you dont like it, just grit your teeth till you've paid off your debt to them. IBM looks great on a CV

I worked at IBM for a couple of years - it was a decent job, but quite unprofessional for how you'd imagine them to be. However, it does indeed look good on a CV.

If you are interested in the sort of stuff IBM has to offer the go for it, its a great opportunity, and opportunities to work with some of the big names like IBM dont come along everyday.

They're about the same as any other employer tbh. As said, it does look good on a CV and you'll get some experience, good and bad.
