Vista doesn't sleep properly

In the past, whenever I've hit sleep, Vista has happily gone to sleep and turned all the power, disks and fans off with it. However, since a few weeks ago, it refuses to sleep - the monitor goes off, but I can see the disk activity lights whirring away and nothing happens. Worse, it doesn't come out of it when I try to wake it.

Is this issue likely to be Vista or my BIOS that's being funny?

I think you need to allow your computer to sleep whilst media sharing. It's a setting in the power options.

Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change advanced settings > Scroll to the bottom > Multimedia Settings > Allow computer to sleep

Always worked for me :)

why is this important? I have issues when streaming video to my PS3 where the file stops after around half an hour saying that a network error has occured. Is this related to Vista power settings?

Sorry to hijack. Do you mean that it can sleep until another PC on the network tries to access files on that PC?

I believe so yes :) I had the same problem as the OP, and changed this setting and never had a problem.

It might be, but I'm not sure. I've only had experience with it preventing the computer from entering sleep.
