Anyone know of any places down Plymouth in the center where i can park over night and that is secure ?

I want to go visit friends for a weekend before xmas.

overnight in plymouth? say bye bye :p

safest bet is probably on the street tbh. depends where abouts obviously though...

You'll find a lot of the areas around the city centre are permit holders only especially around the uni.

What do you mean by secure? A private car park that is locked or guarded 24 hours a day or just a reasonably safe area?

If you can find a place to park near the uni that isn't permit holders only then in general it's a safe area and you'll be ok.

loosely speaking keep east of Alma Rd, Saltash Rd and Western Approach near the uni, but it's not that bad until you go a bit further.

To be honest Plymouth isn't exactly a crime ridden hell-hole. If you want overnight parking at the weekend then park pretty much anywhere around Robbins/Gilwell halls thats not got a parking meter - so round the back past Pilgrims cafe is probably best. It's 2 hours max stay and residents parking bays but these dont apply in the evenings or overnight so its free overnight parking. You can also park outside Cuba/Ride but there are lots of drunk people.

If you are super paranoid about your car (I'm off to London for 3 days and dont want to leave mine on the street for 3 days so this is how I found about this) then on Mutley Plain is a multistory above the railway line. £3 per 24 hours for secure parking, locked away, completely chav-safe.

Another handy hint if its a weekend is the Uni itself. They charge £3 for parking for Saturdays if you are not a student but once the guy goes home at 4pm the barriers are up. So you can park in one of the carparks on Campus. I do that all the time.

ah sweet, yeah Robbins halls , thats where my mates are.

I was looking on google maps around there and there seems to be a lot of street parking spots like you said.

Its going to be my mates car , but i don't want it getting any tickets or clamped.

Depending on timings etc you won't be clamped or ticketed. Uni security are not bothered after 4pm on a Weekday or a Saturday or all day Sunday. Robbins/Pilgrims actually has a carpark (It has an underground one as well but dont park in that) and the barrier goes up at 4pm each day and stays up all Sunday. The Uni hasn't got any clamps (BUT THE COMPANY WHO MANAGE RADNOR AND PILGRIM HALLS DO!) so you wont get clamped for using that carpark I wouldnt have thought.

Parking around Plymouth uni, the bane of my life.

These are the place that i park. All free at all times, but you may struggle to find a place. Although if your coming down on a friday night, then chances are there will be free space.

Good luck with those spots Tom, I think in term time I've got a space in one of those areas for the day a total of 5 times :p Wouldnt park on Addison Road if you care about your car though as people tend to drive into things and park like morons.

The uni is pretty much in the town. See Charles Street? See Eastlake Street? Eastlake Street doesnt exist anymore, that whole area on the left of Charles Street is the main shopping centre.

It's a stone throw away :)

Ooooo! I've been in there :D

I tried to have a little look out for it when I was there but didn't see much :p
When we were looking for a car park, my friend kept being an idiot - driving in the bus lanes and taking the wrong turns :o :p

Cheers guys!

Yeah, i keep my car in one of those spots all the time, lucky its an old heap so i'm not really bothered about drunk people around it. Usually manage to find a space somewhere to keep my car though, only had to park up in freedom fields once.

I used to live on Addison Road! Free Parking :D but your car is likely to have sick, poo, kebab, beer, seagull poo, blood, rubbish, and random things attached to it lol!

Don't leave anything on display in it either the eastern europeans seem to have a penchant for identity theft and car radios in that road! One car a week normally  My housemate took one out with a jar of peanut butter from a 2nd storey window :D
