I'm building myself a new rig and want your opinion..

Which is the best nForce 7 board for under £250..?
£250 is my budget for a board..

Reason I want opinions on a 7 series board is because I'm getting a GTX 260 and MAY want to double up and sli it in a few months.

Either a ddr2 or ddr3 board, not too fussed on that one.

CPU is gonna be E8500

Cheers in advance! :)

lol, sure I can push to another 2 quid if it's a decent board.

I was expecting someone to respond with "Striker II Formula" to be honest.. don't you rate the striker compared to the evga 790i then mate? Heard the striker 780's run a bit hot (NB)..

790i's really the only way to go for Intel SLi, unless you fancy doing an i7 build with an Asus P6T for example :)

I've heard of a fair few problems with the Striker 2 Formula, but to be honest Nvidia's chipsets aren't really all that good, so it doesn't really matter what board you get.

780i are all rubbish compared to 790is because they are slower and run a lot hotter due to Nvidia trying to bodge a PCI-e 2.0 board together quickly.

The 790i is a big jump from from the 780i and they are good boards. :)

I have a 790 that I might be selling in the not too distant future. I have a q6600 clocked to 3.8 on it, lovely board and I've got the latest bios on it. Let me know if you're interested in it.

Cheers,

Blue

At this sort of price range given you are thinking of going SLI and don't care if its a DDR3 board or not I would think a i7 / X58 build would be a better starting point (assuming of course you don't already have the cpu). The cpu is more expensive (although the motherboard can be picked up for less) however it will certainly last longer before needing to be upgraded AND can run both CF and SLI if you want to try something different in the future.

Just a suggestion of course. :)

If you are talking specifically 7 series and not X58, Evga 790i F.T.W Digital is arguably the best 7 series motherboard you can buy for that money.

Cheers for the replies fellas.

The comment that stood out to me was that Nvidia's chipsets aren't really all that good.

Would I be better off with an X48 board and go with a single GTX260 ?
I'll mainly be using it for gaming on games like CoD4+5 and OFP2 after a few years away from the scene, I just wanted to kind of future proof it for my graphics..
But I dont want to compromise for a lesser quality chipset, without going the i7/x58 route, as I just cant afford that setup just yet.

Cheers again.
