What is all the hoohaa abuot a DNA database - bring it on!

Look, if you want to cut down on crime, then legalise All drugs. I know thats off topic, but if all the Western countries at least legalised drugs, you would solve so many problems. Thats a discussion for another time, but rape and murder cases aren't some massive epidemic in britain.

Frankly anyone who agrees to dna database, terrorist laws and anything similar are idiots. It is never good to remove your civil liberties. You can never know what this or a future government will do or criminalise.

You can not guarantee this data will not be tampered with, sold or stolen.

what happens when the government decides they want to sale it to insurance companies, or employees or anyone else.

A lot of you need your heads read.

DNA doesnt prove innocense.

For example, taking the rape case - if you had sex with a girl - consenual sex - and she cryed rape afterwards, your DNA on her wouldnt prove you guilty. Also, if she had sex with you, then a day or so later DID get raped, your DNA would be smack bang in the middle of the trial.

Whilst i agree DNA in crime solving is great, i DO think too much importance is placed on it solving the crime

I don't think anyone here is suggesting because a flake of your dandruff is found near a crime scene you be straight to the gallows... I suspect they just might do a little more investigation.

Nice rhetoric... But how does it remove your civil liberties? Really? How would your 70rs of your life differ with a database and without a database? Apart from with a database you might be safer?

Nope... So? There's far more important data of yours out there. A bunch of Rna mapppings? Hmmm... Interesting stuff!

Now, here is the possibilities of a founded point. However, I don't think the dna profile kept on record could be used for this?

ANYONE KNOW? Because this would be a serious matter that would make me concerned about it!

I think it's more a dna fingerprint, and not a full dna mapping.

So I think your concerns are unfounded.

A lot of you need your heads read.

I think some people need to be concerned with facts rather than just ranting and raving about civil liberties for seemingly no real reason?

at the moment, who is to say if the database would be upgrade to contain the sequence and not just markers? you know to help refine a large database and keep innocent people out of a trial.

What and the anti terrorist laws aren't a removal of my rights. One of the corner stones of are justice system has been removed and the length keeps increasing.

Its not really about civil liberties I guess. More to do with the assumption (as mentioned) of moving toward a state where everyone is assumed to be guilty. Its no better than putting CCTV cameras inside everyone's houses (including your bathroom), so no-one could commit crime ever.

Safer? Yes, maybe, it debatable. Morbidly depressing and frightening...a police state? Most definitely.

the fact that it would be unfeasable.

It would take weeks to do a single person even if you got it down to 1 week that would be over 1000 millennia of man hours :/

plus theres no point it has no real gain in accuracy 99% of the time, and is of no value to the government.

But if you;re just going to say "but but they mgiht change it!!", thats a bit stupid, after al they may change it so your driving license needs your sexuality we should ban driving licenses just incase!

Glad you can tell where technology will be in a few decades as I can't..

Look at history and how governments have abused there power. The government at the moment has far to much power and involves themselves in our lifes far to much.

They will be recording microsatellites... not a full DNA scan. Please don't confuse the two, they are very, very different.

So how would they be able to spin recording DNA that has no use to them or you, as it;s the same for everyone?

More importantly why would they?

how would they be able to spin a war, or spin the need for imprisonment with out trial or a law that states the PM can push through any law he wants..

Why information is power.. loads of uses for a full genetic mark up.

Don't follow...

My argument is with any crime committed, there is a chance of DNA evidence being left. This could then lead to a match on a national database giving a quick lead to investigate. As such it could either put criminal activity off entirely, or at least help solve it.
And my argument is that something that could help solve some crimes is not worth forcing the entire country to register with, most likely against some of their wishes. Is that not logical enough for you either?

You make a very good argument/point there!
Wha? He's made the same point several of us have already been saying. That's there's no need to ruin our balance between law and rights in order to possibly increase safety, especially to an entirely unprovable amount.

Anyway, I promised to leave didn't I? Oops.
