Hello,

I'm looking to buy a car in february and i'm wondering if you guys can help me out with some suggestions?

Budget is around 2-3k The lower the better.

It will mostly be used travelling up the M1 to work (Sheffield -> Leeds) and back a few times a week. So i need something that wont feel like it's gonna fall appart on the motorway.

I'm a tall guy, so nothing too cramped please. And i like to have a bit of power underneath the bonnet, something that can accelerate at a fairly decent rate.

Hope you can help me out.

Cheers,

Gil.

Most people here will assume that as you've said you like to 'accelerate at a fairly decent rate' you obviously need something capable of 150mph with over 200bhp and will now proceed to suggest all manner of hugely expensive to run fast cars.

Meanwhile, Mondeo 2.0 for the win.

Thanks for your suggestions.

What should i be looking for in terms of age and milage?

[EDIT]

Actually, i've just been looking at the Mondeo and it's probably the most boring car in the world. I dont think i could cope.

Any other suggestions?

Well, your other options are probably Vectra's, Octavia's or Passat's. If you want a BMW or Mercedes then prepare to spend another £1000 on top of the price you'll be getting it for to bring it up to scratch.

Edit: Seat Cordoba perhaps?

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Would a half decent A3 fall into that price bracket?

What about an accord? seem to be going for peanuts, are they terrible?

I had my eye on a Volvo S40 sport the other day, whats the verdict on that?

Or how about something a little smaller like a focus? I cant actually buy a focus because my brother has one, and that would just be wrong :)

Because! Growing up we always had the same clothes, the same toys, the same everything! For that reason alone, i couldn't possibly have the same car as him!

Its just a silly thing really, but there we go. Think as you wish. :)

No a half Decent A3 does not fall into this bracket. A £2-3k S40 will not be the good model either, and the Accord is fundamentally decent but no less boring than the ideally suited Mondeo you've already ruled out.

Get ge a focus, but get one that's better than your brothers. He'll feel like hes in 'the fail' and then he should get a new car, which will probably be different than a focus, thereby solving the problem.

OR

mondeo tbh.

2004 FORD FOCUS 1.8 Zetec 3dr Hatchback 94,000 miles
Price: £2,695

I assume the Zetec is the way to go? What about the milage? I'm really not that clued up about used cars. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

[edit]

My brother has a 1.8 LX 5 door. :)

Make sure it has ESP, if not then it is dangerous on long trips ;)

On a serious note, a Mondeo would be my preference over a Focus.

Maybe an Octavia 1.8T vRS, can buy one within budget, depends if the running costs also fit, can't imagine they are too bad though.
