Renault Sport Spider

What is a "virtually one owner car" and how does it differ from a normal one owner car?

Did these ever come without a windscreen? I have a vague recollection of seeing one without a windscreen.

I drove one when it was new (shows my age I guess).
As I remember, all the UK spec cars had full windscreens. The engine was from the Clio Williams. Have to say that I don't remember getting out thinking "wow". In short, a lot of ability, but not that much go.

Post driving one, one of my friends joined Lotus. The joke at the time of launch (the Elise was launched just after the Spider), was that the jig used to build the Elise was smaller than the Spider. Check the weight of the Spider, despite also being made of aluminium, Renault must have added deuterium to it to result in it's final weight.

I have a soft spot for them, only ever seen one on the road. Was chasing an Elise down the A47 in the rain, no roofs and both drivers looked like the were having a great time. I believe the F7R engine in the road cars was that used in the Megane coupe's and the race versions used a tuned version of the F7R found in the Williams. Expensive yes but how many of them do you see?

Overpriced at 17K no matter how rare they may be. Caterham or Elise would be money better spent if you are seeking such a car.

I'd have one over an Elise for rarity value alone...Spider cup spec chassis with Sodemo Gp2 ST-spec engine...

Some aerodynamic gizmo which was supposed to move air up and over the drivers head but didn't work very well.

Dont get me wrong, its a hell of a lot of money. However I would be inclined to say that it would be more of a collector who would purchase it whereas an Elise or Caterham would be bought to be used as intended :D ie driven properly and not sat "looking nice" in the corner. From what I remeber they are also fairly safe, one was rolled heavily into the tyres at Snetterton in 96 (oh the memories) and driver walked away with no injuries.

I saw one of these following a couple of Renault Alpine 110s over Ditchling Beacon, It was a strange occurrence, and the RSS was somewhat overshadowed.

I'd rather have an Elise.

An Aero screen.
Putting one on my Indy instead of a windscreen, necessitates a crash helmet though if you plan on driving at speed, as a bee in the face at 80 hurts... a lot!

It was the retarded incarcerated gay niece of the Elise.

There is popular story in one of the Elise Development Story books where the engineers of the Renault Sport Spider were at the same motoring show as Lotus launching their new cars and the Renault engineers were all like "WTF how can this be? How did you make this chassis without welding? We were told it was NOT possible!?"

There was one listed near Edinburgh recently for under 10k, still hideously ugly but a bit of a better price than 17k...
It's probably still available, was hideous green.

I can imagine if you were much over 6ft, getting the brunt of everything the gizmo throws up right into your eyes.
