My old car was involved in a RTA earlier this year and written off.The 3rd party accepted full responsibility and after a few weeks apid out in full.

On Friday i received my renewal notice and my Insurance company are saying that i now have 0 no claims as opposed to 4 years which i believe it should be.

How can i lose my no claims when there have been no claims against my insurance? Tried phoning them yesterday but, they only have sales people manning the phones on the weekend.

Is this right?

Doesn't sound right to me, you would normally lose your excess and NCB temporarily until fault was established and the claim settled, but it should be restored by now I would have thought.

Just contact them on Monday. I had an accident a few months ago and my 2 years NCBs were intact. Same as you, all was claimed off the third party without incident. what insurer are you with, out of curiosity?

Im wondering also as to whether or not i have been charged over the top on my current car,my policy continued with them when i got the 172 but the extra monthly payments were quite high.

As above, sometimes your insurers will temporarily withdraw your NCB discount whilst blame is being established. Once this has been done (as in your case) they should be restored.

Similar thing happened to me though, basically the claim manager I had at Elephant simply forgot to close the claim off. Phoned them up, took about 10 minutes to explain what the problem was, case closed, NCB reinstated.

Same here but with Tesco. :)

Just phone them on Monday and you should be able to sort it out.

With my first accident I told them, but didn't claim and all was fine. Until renewal when I had huge premiums, I phoned to ask why and was told I had a claim, I explained I didn't then they decided that it must be that the other party claimed...I pointed out I put the car on it's roof without hitting any other cars, after a few phone calls and letters they then reinstated my NCB.

Phone the insurance ombudsman if they play up. Although Im sure they are in the wrong and will reinstate it after a quick chat.

Just spoke to my insurance company and as suggested it was a cockup their end. All no claims now reinstated.

Thanks for the advice.

Glad you got it sorted :-)

It does amuse me though how some people see their NCB as analogous to an NFB (no fault bonus - which ofc there is no such thing).
