Im looking at getting this for me brother -

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-186-SP

Its low profile which is essential, and should provide a good ammount of power for gaming (i hope). Im basically looking if anyone knows what this compares to in Nvidias line up, as im more familiar with them than ATI. If its anything like an 8600GT hel be happy (good for running things at medium on a fairly low res).

Edit - Reason i ask is, i couldnt find any benchmarks for it :(.

There is a review vs a 9400GT which reckons it`s the nearest Nvidia equivalent.

Conclusion at the end of the review:

"and users that plan on doing anything more than casual gaming should invest in one of the slightly more expensive cards from either AMD (HD4650 or HD4670) or NVidia (GeForce 9600GT)"

Well, just read elsewhere that an 8600GT outperforms a 9400GT which is outperformed by the HD4550, but another review puts a 9600GT ahead by a country mile of the HD4550 and an 8600GTS is about double the performance of an HD4550.

Benchies (HL2, 1680 x 1050, 4xAA & 16xAniso):

9600GT: 73.12

8600GTS: 38.96

9500GT: 37.63

HD4550: 22.47

Doesn't look good according to this review, which incidentally took me no more than 30 seonds to find (google "ATI Radeon HD 4550" 3rd hit down) ;) . Unfortunately there's not a great deal of choice on the low profile scene, which is a shame really when you consider there is a lot of nice looking sff htpc cases around nowadays.

Playing modern games with reasonable image quality settings ? Forget about it, absolutely no way. Though performance has improved heaps over the previous low-level graphics cards, the game industry has moved on as well. Games are getting more complex to compute and render.

Well, on his current card (2400 Pro) the Source games always ran extremely well on it, and heck it could even play Crysis on Medium at 800x600. The 4550 looks like it kicks it up quite a notch and hence why im considering upgrading it for him. Not really bothered about AA or AF, just having a reasonable experience playing the games :).
