Hi guys,

Where i live there is very little pc support and i have wanted to do something like this ever since i have come back from America, as they have PC support on tap over there.

So, i am setting up my own PC support company and a new website aswell. I have been spending the past few days getting my forum up and running, but unfortunately i dont really have any user's our topics?

I have been setting up posts myself with the help of this great forum but i need some help, and i was wondering if i posted a link to my forum here, would you guys come along, register and start posting. I dont want to put a direct link on just yet, as i dont want to break any rules, so if someone could just tell me if it is ok to post my link i will do it and you guys can tell me what you think and hopefully start registering and posting.

Thanks,
ace

Unfortunately, it is against the rules.

No Promotion Of Business Interests

The rules state "The forums are here to allow people to freely share knowledge, not provide them with personal financial gain, or free advertising.", i am not looking to make any financial gain from my forums, i am looking to do exactly what the OCUK forums do, which is supply free, knowledgeable information.

i would class my main site as a business interest, but it is not up and running yet, but my forums, which is what i want you guys to have a look at is not, its just for support reasons, exactly like these forums.

what about a link in my signature that people would click on if they wanted, but i wouldnt be promoting it?

Why exactly would people want to pay for support then, when they could get it for free from the forums?

Does that not cut out a % of your income - having free support available?

But isn't OcUK already a forum where people can/do come for computer and IT advice? I'm confused as to how linking to effectively a competing forum (with a business attached to boot) isn't a competitor?

No but surely promoting his forums will have the effect of increasing the possibility for those users becoming potential customers.

My business idea is in no way a direct competitor of these forums or OCUK. It is only supplying support to customers and NOT physical products, infact it could only help OCUK, in the past when building up my business i, and my customers have purchased almost £35,000 worth of products from OCUK.

So surely this would be helping?

I would say you're treading on thin ice...

Either way though it would have probably been best to email a mod ;)
