Well, im going for my navy medical tomorrow where a very nice indian man is going to have to caress my balls for the infamous cough and drop.

But it got me thinking...why? What do they get from it?

Ive already had one medical from the navy, now having another - so thats twice my balls have been cupped.

I tried cupping my balls and coughing to try and see if I could notice anything and I couldnt. Wouldve been great if my mum wouldve walked in whilst doing it!

Yeah, I've had this done twice and always wondered exactly what it proved. First time was a really hot woman doc too :o

It's done to detect hernias. If you have a defect in your abdomen it will pop out when the test is done. I've had the test done by the RAF, however there they just apply pressure to your lower abdomen instead of cupping ... don't even have to take the boxers off.

they like it, it's the navy ;)

Exactly. :p

I am going to have an interview in the near future hopefully, what position have you applied for there out of interest?

The last 2 times I've had it done it was just two fingers into the lower groin/pubic area for a hernia. Think they check your balls to see that they've dropped and that you're all man

So it's a test for peritonitis? Wonder why every general medical specifically checks for that - is it very common?

It's something you don't want someone to have when in the middle of a crisis where lives are dependant on your physical well being and ability to perform, no.
