Do many people still play it? Thinking of buying it again. Same goes for BF: Vietnam. :)

BF 1942 was probably the best overall in terms of balance and competative play, Berlin & Stalingrad were awesome maps, the reasons this was the best ? no stupid stats.. you joined a map and played to win and not fulfill some stupid requirement for a useless badge.

Battlefield 1942: The WWII Anthology (PC CD) you can get for £10 now. If you download the DC and FH add-ons too, thats a lot of fun for the money even if you just do SP :)

BTW I much prefer the flght in this version.

Agreed.

I've never played it but Front Lines: Fuel of war is game by the same dev team who produced Desert Combat? Can't be that good though as I never hear anything been said about it. I saw it for a tenner the other day in that 'cheap' northern supermarket.

A mod called Desert Conflict was released for BF2 a while back. It's a BF2 version of Desert Combat. It's been a slow developent but if you want an updated version of DC, you might want to take a look at this.

Yeah i played it for abit, but it just seemed to be lacking the player base. I think this was due to the mod being released when people were moving away from bf2 to newer games.

Was brilliant, it was the first game I played that had so many players, tanks, aircraft and boats as well as FPS, the maps were huge. It wasnt exactly CS on the FPS side of things but the hugeness made up for it.

I prefered it to the modern ones as the bombs from the plane and the shells from the tanks had a nice arc, u had to have skill to hit.

BF1942 is one of those great landmark games which gave unrivalled multiplayer fun, even BF2 never matched the online fun that you could get from BF1942.

Anyone actually manage to get BF1942 to work under vista 64-bit?
I get as far as the select a profile screen then a window pops up saying BF1942.exe has stopped working and the game closes.

I think I'll just have to download the forgotten hope mod for BF2 and hope that provides similar enjoyment to BF1942.

Sadly I’ve tried FH2 and still playing it with the new patch as PR was annoying the pants off me with its problems………..so waiting for its patch..

FH2 is great for the range of weapons and vehicles you can use, the maps are small and for infantry battles well suited but poorly designed at points….its all geared for choke points with little tactical thought needed……….

The real disappointment is the Map sizes. You wont get epic tank battles and fantastic dog fights as the planes are poorly done, you cant see dick out them and have no place to fly.. I remember fondly the massive dog fights in 1942 and chasing that jeep to strafe it down a valley road. God I miss the dog fights that you appreciated your enemies skill and needed to have a bit yourself to cut it.

I was just online there :p

I've been playing the IS82 mod for 1942 and its brilliant, mostly people have made challenge tracks and its fun to see if you can make it to the end....

Well I decided to buy the BF1942 Anthology pack as I can't find my BF1942 disc 1.

So far I can load it up and join a without it crashing, but for some reason I can't move or shoot. I can look around with my mouse and my ' ` ' key brings up the console and ' Esc ' key exits to the menu screen and all the keys and buttons work there.

It also looks like it isn't changing my resolution either, but I can't confirm it.

[Edit] Nevermind, I made a new config in game and it sorted the keyboard issue out.
Still can't get it to display at 1280*1024 resolution though, even after manually editing the Video.con files.
