BF1942

Well I decided to buy the BF1942 Anthology pack as I can't find my BF1942 disc 1.

So far I can load it up and join a without it crashing, but for some reason I can't move or shoot. I can look around with my mouse and my ' ` ' key brings up the console and ' Esc ' key exits to the menu screen and all the keys and buttons work there.

It also looks like it isn't changing my resolution either, but I can't confirm it.
I think i remember something like that happen. Did you run it in compatibility mode?

Yeah I'm running it in Win 98/ME compatibility mode.
No issues now other than the resolution is 1280*960 rather than 1280*1024, but I must say I'd forgotten how much fun bf1942 was.

A uk supermarket sell bf2 complete edition or whatever for under 8quid online.

Best value game I have seen for years

Just got back from a late night lab session so cba to look but it was £7.91 last week:)

Sadly I’ve tried FH2 and still playing it with the new patch as PR was annoying the pants off me with its problems………..so waiting for its patch..

FH2 is great for the range of weapons and vehicles you can use, the maps are small and for infantry battles well suited but poorly designed at points….its all geared for choke points with little tactical thought needed……….

The real disappointment is the Map sizes. You wont get epic tank battles and fantastic dog fights as the planes are poorly done, you cant see dick out them and have no place to fly.. I remember fondly the massive dog fights in 1942 and chasing that jeep to strafe it down a valley road. God I miss the dog fights that you appreciated your enemies skill and needed to have a bit yourself to cut it.

i missed the flying too, so bought a cheap copy and found a server with battle of britain 24/7. Classis stuff really, also flying in the AC-130 in DC is still great. ITs like the mission in COD4 for those who haven't use it before.

BF 1942 was probably the best overall in terms of balance and competative play, Berlin & Stalingrad were awesome maps, the reasons this was the best ? no stupid stats.. you joined a map and played to win and not fulfill some stupid requirement for a useless badge.

Yes Yes and thrice yes

This is ultimately what has driven me from FPS.

To see two noobs stabbing each other in a corner of the map or not playing for a team win because they are after a noob knifing badge spoiled FPS completely.

BF1942?
*sigh*
fond memories.
El Alemein and Battle of Britain - classics
Forgotten Hope mod? - Superb. Such a shame FH2 for BF2 was about 2 years late and toss.

I occasionally play BF1942 along with the Desert Combat Final mod every now and then, but obviously, not as much people play it these days. I always tend to go on the same servers (Particulary the 24/7 one map servers) since they are the only ones left with a decent amount of players.

And I agree with some others, this game was the best version of them all. I just love the comedic gameplay, the paper weight vehicles and all the hilarious stuntwork you can do to kill others, it is such a classic.

Since I bought it I absolutely hated BF1942.....at the time I was big into the original Day of Defeat and it was just so different I couldn't adjust. There just seemed to be a lot "off" with the damage recognition etc. I enjoyed Battlefield Vietnam a whole lot more.

Been a long while since I played it but I remember it was the hit box issues which were my main problem with it. I seem to remember you had to phaff about leading your shots in order to hit anybody. Coming from Mohaa I couldn't be dealing with that. Apart from that though it was a stunning looking game at the time.
