I've just bought a new camera (Fuji f50fd - it's going to be a while before I can afford a DSLR). I'm a complete amateur at photography, I've never even owned a camera before lol.

However, I've been inspired by some of the pics on this forum and would like to learn more about photography. I've got a month off work before I go travelling so I have lots of spare time in which to experiment and learn.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest any books/guides/tutorials etc which would help me along the way, be that understanding the modes on my camera, setting up a scene, or post processing on photoshop.

Thanks very much for any help.

check out the Lonely Planet guides to travel photography. There are people and places guides and give you good hints and tips how to approach travel photography (which seems to be the intention of your purchase).

With a compact, you are not going to have too much easy control over the technical aspects of exposure, but you can make sure the content of you images maximizes the potential.

Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson will be the book that most people recommend, very good it is to. The New Manual Of Photography by John Hedgecoe (ISBN: 0751337374) is one I've found very useful (and I probably refer to it more than the Peterson book).

Understanding Exposure is a good one as others have said, it really does explain things in an easy to remember way, I quite often find myself thinking about some of his analogies when deciding on how to set my camera up, even though it's some time since i read it!

Just bought that on Monday. Got an email today, saying it will take 15 days or so, coming from the US. Cheers Amazon, for not telling me that is :(:o

Gutted! Should have looked at where the marketplace sellers were from :P Can't you cancel it and get it elsewhere?

waterstones has it for nearly the same price and you wouldnt have to wait ages! Might get it myself as I just got my 1000D today!
