I own quite a few domains which are all registered with UKreg. If i do a WHOIS lookup on any of them I can find quite a lot of info which I dont really want showing.

Whats the best way to hide/protect this information???

UKreg have a 'domain privacy' service BUT its not available on all top level domains AND they charge £5 per year per domain for it. £5 sounds cheap but it soon adds up when you own lots of domains.

Anyone got any advice?

I've obviously already thought about just making up some bogus info to put in, but this doesn't seem like a good option as if you ever get any problems with the domain then how do I prove I'm Mr A Nonymous :D

Namecheap provide free "whois privacy", but AFAIK it's just as bad as putting in some random fake address.
The name on the whois record should be the person that owns it.
Saying that, I still use it :D

There is an option most registrars do that can make this info anonymous to the standard whois user.

Talk to whoever you registered it with, 123-reg can do it for example.

Does cost a few quid tho.

Just remember that each TLD has it's own rules on what needs to be entered for the WHOIS information.
All of these "domain privacy" options you see are basically using a loophole.
If you decide to go that route then remember that as far as most TLD registry and ICAAN are concerned the details in the WHOIS belong to the owner.
Go into a dispute with your domain registration company and you could find yourself losing your domains.

Don't put fake details in.
If a domain has fake details people can very easily report this to ICAAN (especially if it's a domain name somebody else fancies).
If ICAAN decide the details are fake they can simply delete the domain and offer it for registration again - they don't even need to attempt to make contact.

If your domains are .uk ones and you are a UK indivdual (not business) then you can WHOIS Opt-Out - totally free and a Nominet feature.

Thats great cheers. I'm going to do this for the .co.uk's and will have to pay the £5 per domain per year for the .com's i think.

Thanks for the advice.

My hosting lot offer "Domain Protect" on domains but yes - it does cost money, about £8per domain if I remember correctly.

They can however, remove my personal address details from the WHOIS records and replace it with their own address. They offer this option for free.

But as already stated, each domain name can have its own particular rules and regs, so it's not an "across the board" option for every single domain you might own.
