Dexter Morgan - Hero or Villain?

This thread sums up exactly why the show is such a hit, it's polarising but still enjoyable by both sides. It's quite strange rooting for a seriously flawed protagonist who you know you shouldn't really be rooting for.

What?

he doesn't do any harm.

Debatable, however bad the people are he dispatches, they may have dependents and other loved ones, to say that "just because they are bad he obviously does no harm" is an overly simplistic way of looking at it.

As for the people worried about spoilers, I've heard that the alleged spoiler happens very early in the very first episode - so it's hardly something that will ruin the next series for you.

I like how the ID card threads result in people claim "OMG judge dread future" yet someone who is pretty much as close as possible to judge dread only less badass, if glorified.

Yeah true. People want capital punishment and the Government to kill people, yet they don't want ID cards or the state telling them what to do all the time.

Make your minds up.

Imo dexter's a hero who sometimes gets things wrong.

the cost of failure in a death sentence society, is far greater than than in a life sentence society.

A single wrong exicution makes the state no better than the criminal.

(although it's arguable even a correct sentence causes this too, civilization is not about revenge but about protection and the knowledge you cannot fight back on the same level, because to do so robs you of the everything that makes you civilized.)

Dunno, I think I read it in the Howard Marks book whilst skimming through, it stuck in my head.

I don't think he's either good or evil, assigning moral values to acts is almost always hypocritical. It would appall me in real life, but I enjoy the show and like others find myself rooting for the guy.

Because there's a difference watching someone bashing someones skull in with a hammer and watching an autopsy. I hunt and fish, so killing and gutting animals is nothing to me. As for going out and beating a homeless person to death, I seriously doubt you could unless there is something wrong with you.

I wondered why you got so uppity about it and then I remembered you're the tool asking for someones name and address like an e-badass from the dangerous dogs thread. You're one of the people I'm specifically talking about.

Edit: And looking into it further, even more of your posts are full of just as much nonsense. Like your posts on page seven of the Gary McKinnon thread.

obviously there is a difference, and like i said, ive seen a lot of those movies, and my reactions are non-existent.

I wouldnt go and beat a homeless person to death, because thats just stupid, not because killing is bad, its because its completely pointless and i wouldnt enjoy it either.... That said it doesnt mean i COULDNT do it like i will physically not be able to because i feel sad etc etc..

Lastly, whats wrong with killing a chav who puts a hoodie on a dog? (a joke btw)
