Corsair HX TX 650W

Can anyone advise me if the Crossair HX 620W is wroth the extra money, compared to the Crossair TX 650W (41£!).


TX is cheaper, and has more power (not sure if this is correct). I don't know what modular means (HX)

I ordered the HX. As a side note, the HX price has increased from 81.99£ to 99.99£ scince the 6th of December. :(

Modular means the cables can be removed, so that you only need to connect as many or as few as you need. Makes for a tidier case - although you can always hide spare cables. It's convenient, and nice to have, but not essential. Where there's a choice - and really it's not as if the 650 will be "too much" or the 620 will be "too little" in comparison to each other I'd go for the modular every time.
 
I'd also go for the modular. Much easier cable management and great for airflow, though a lot of this will depend on what case you have.
 
+1 for the above. Modular is definately much easier to set up than trying to fight with a dozen cables strewn all over the inside of your case.

Corsair do a good job of ensuring the cable contacts to the PSU are of a good quality too. Didn't know about the price rise though!
 
One thing that caught my eye and especially with the price rise on the 620HX. Are you sure you couldn't get away with the 520HX? That provides enough power for the majority of performance rigs and only costs £71.
 
It all depends how fussy you are in your cable routing.

Modular is great for people who have side windows and actually look into them.

I just bundle all the spare cables into a 5.25 drive bay and fix them with a couple of cable ties.

Really not worth £40 for modular .... and the HX620 is now having more failures than I like.... I'm on my second.

To be fair everybody, and their dog, has bought and recommended Corsairs for a long time now. It's only natural that when a PSU fails it's a Corsair, since we've not bought anything else :P
 
The Corsair HX 620 is very expensive now... I remember it being around £90 a few months back. I'd go for something like the Enermax Modu82+ 625W which can be had for £83.
 
Thanks, I think I got it right. Ordered the HX for 81£+VAT before the price increased. Fingers croiss amd I get it todaty. Unfortunatly Gigabyte 45EP-UD3P is out of stock.

Oh my lord look at the prices of the HX now, £114 for the 620W!!!

PC Power and Cooling 610W Silencer is £71!!!!


PS - If you can't tidy a few cables away, then there's something wrong with you.

I was looking at getting the HX520W, but I really don't care about having a modular PSU.
The most important issue for me is sound, so with that in mind, what would be the quietest PSU at around 500W?
What's the VX550 like?
 
They're just milking that particular model for all it's worth, overtaking the PCP&C Silencer 750 in price says it all really.

EDIT - mcwildcard - The Corsair vx550 would be a fine choice indeed. The Enermax Modu82+ 525w, Zalman ZM500-HP and Be Quiet! Darkpower 550w all make for good alternatives if lack of noise is important to you.

It's a complete rip-off, people just buy Corsair blind, and this modular thing is so overblown it's ridiculous.

£114, that's £11 more than a better PSU (750W Silencer) with much greater wattage. And it's not like PC P and C are cheap here either....
