Its quite a while since I posted an update about my MR2, after I ran the new engine in for a bit, i then did the final tweaks and a few more mods.

just to recap, the new engine built

and in the car

now the new bits...

I bought a Greddy Emanage Ultimate and a Boomslang custom witing harness

and mounted it behind the passenger seat so it could be hooked upto a laptop easily

I then had the car mapped by Thor-Racing, who did a good job and made it a smoother car with a good idle, something I was lacking after the engine build

Then I managed to find a bargain on ebay that consisted of a full direct port nitrous kit, including a maximiser progressive controller

a few adjustments made, including the bottle stripped, sprayed blue

and a pressure switch and gauge was added, with the warning stickers and a quick release bottle mount

I then set about the wiring, it was a task in itself, but its now hard wired to the ecu and throttle body. I've arranged it so then it is turned on by a fancy switch near the gearstick, and then when the throttle pedal is around 85% depressed it activates the maximiser thats in the glove box, which then tells the nitrous and fuel pulsoids what is programmed and fires it into the engine. The Bottle heater is also activated by another switch, which warms the bottle to achieve optimum temperature, and once it hits this it cuts off

the magic button lol...

because its direct port, the injectors go direct into each manifold runner, instead of the entrance of the throttle body, this ensures a consistant and equal mixture to each cylinder. I started by drilling 2 holes in each runner and tapping them out

then the injectors with equal length nitrous and fuel lines:

and the injector lines hooked up onto the distribution block

I initially had the nitrous and fuel pulsoids in the boot, but i've since changed that arrangement to avoid any fuel drop out due to the length of the pipe work, so they are now in the engine bay and mounted to the strut brace

and the bottle is mounted in the boot

I managed to source a turbo engine lid in the correct colour too, so I put that on, one thing I did do is modify the rain tray underneath to allow maximum airflow to let the heat escape

On testing the nitrous I completed a idle/static test to make sure i was firing fuel and nitrous through the pulsoids ok, all seemed good, so with a 25 bhp shot, ( 25 fuel jet and 50 nitrous jet) I went for a drive... I started off in normal mode, hit the button, planted my foot and felt it kick in instantly, even for a 25shot it felt good.

So I had a bit of a play with the 25bhp, got home, checked everything ok which it was, and put a 50 shot on (50fuel, 100nos), it felt awesome, just pins you back in the seat and off it goes!

The only downside is that when I turned the nitrous off and planted my foot, it felt so slow in normal form , but I guess thats what having such a power increase does to your mind!

On the greddy emanage I have now created a map that will adjust the timing to retard 2 degrees, this means that I can now safely go for a 100+ shot, I havent tested this yet, but I will do next year when the car is back on the road

cheers for the comments

I haven't recorded any video's yet, I will do next year when its on a 100 or 150 shot and there will be no melted pistons! lol :p

The maximiser allows for a progressive hit of nitrous to play it safe, for example if I was to use a 100 shot, I could program the maximiser to start the nitrous at anything from 20% (apx 20bhp) of the final figure and increase to the full 100 shot over a set period of time (say a few seconds) to make for a smooth and safe hit ;)

Very impressive mate, bet you must be pleased having done all the work (bar mapping) yourself?

Yeah i am pleased, it feels good now its nearly complete

ethos - the 3sge comes with 158bhp @ the fly as standard, mines mapped safely to 154 bhp at the wheels, so its a good increase off gas

Awesome build mate, must have taken ages. Nice work :)

Personally i don't understand why people don't take the easy option, get a turbo, power all the time and with zero hassle :p

nice one mate, sounds like fun! :D

mines been off the road since last Jan, cant wait to drive it again once the engine is built :)

thats along time, i feel your pain it will be worth it though bud

Cheers jez, the easy option was just too easy:p I wanted something different

Out of interest, is there anything to stop a Wizards of *** kit being installed onto a FI engine?

nope, it will react even better :)

whatever shot you put through it, you will get near on double!

eg, put 50bhp shot and you will end up with 100 :D

Good build.

EMU and boomslang is a good combo, i had a boomslang harness for my MX-5 and it saved having to cut into the standard loom which is something i didn't want to do.

something for the future maybe, i have a spare turbo lump in my garage to use as a very long term project

yeah definately worth the wait, i'm aiming for a reliable 300-350rwhp once its all done with a quick spool

sounds like it will be a beast mate

definately a great bit of kit, ive been splicing into the extra loom for a few other electronics too
