Illegal plates

Im quite amazed at the number of illegal numberplates around on my commute into work - ie stupid thin fonts that are barely visible at a distance etc, seems to be quite popular around my neck of the woods (Slough)

Do the police not bother with them ? I see the same cars every day and I would have though with all modern ANPR and Camera systems this would be a fairly easy thing to police ?

In Slough there is too much serious crime to catch up with these number plate people. and when they do the fine goes unpaid and court summons ignored....

They do have ANPR on one of the roads into Slough, I've seen it a few times giving lifts to someone unfortunate enough to work there for 2 months.

Problem is the thin fonts aren't readable by ANPR which is why they're suddenly cracking down on them after many years of ignoring it, but it requires a good old fashioned pull by the police to do. Oh and I'm told traffic wardens can now issue tickets for it. Someone on SXOC reported coming out one morning to find a ticket on his car issued at 2AM.

Don't forget that the smaller fonts on rectangular plates used on grey imports are legal though, providing they're attached to an imported car that can't fit a standard plate. Of course given that the jap import look is the in thing right now they're also turning up on Corsas and Saxos (lorry plates are also legal on any car, even if they do look incredibly stupid on a Corsa)

They are too busy stopping people at 2mph over the limit.

THat's hilarious, it really is. No, really, congrats. What are they supposed to do? If they do stop people with bad plates you would complain that they were focusing on the petty crimes, and vice-versa.

The police in general are just a bunch of every day annoyances with nothing better to do with their time, up here anyway.

Im sick of getting pulled over. Over and over I get pulled over. Usually 3am or so in the morning and they take all my details which takes ages, and all my mates details. And they have no reason for pulling me over, they don't breathalize me never happened but they just always take details, im like can't you just phone up and ask for my details because they have taken them that many god damn times.

They nearly have arrested me loads of times but, just sit there giving them cheek haha.

MOT test centres have been asked to keep an eye on plates since a few months ago.
Of course this is not going to stop them, especially those people with "MOT Plates" in their garage.

As an illegal plate can net a nice £30 fine I'm surprise more people aren't stopped - nice and easy stop and fine.

To be honest the only plates and fonts that actually look good are the legal ones.
I am yet to see an illegal plate that actually looked any good at all - so I tend to just laugh to myself when I see them.
Wonder why people would want to ruin the look of their vehicle.

Driving about at 3am with a load of your mates in the car is probably why they pull you over. Either you look or act suspicious enough to attract their attention.

just sit there giving them cheek haha.

This almost certainly helps.

Out of interest is there anything you might be doing to attract their attention, for example do you drive a complete shed with a huge spoiler and bodykit and a fart cannon? Or are at the opposite end of the scale are you 17 and drive a brand new BMW or Scooby?

This isn't meant to accuse you of doing anything wrong, I'm just curious is all. I used to get stopped a lot in my first job because I'd have to work lates for 1 week at a time every couple of months which would see me driving home about 2AM through one of the more dodgy areas of Merseyside in a clapped out and rusting old Mk4 Ford Escort.

Might want to start noting down dates, times and collar numbers of the police that stop you, see if it's the same one.

Stop being a **** in your car at silly o'clock in the morning. You might not get pulled so often (you have probably been pulled twice and just whinging).

Also, If i was on nightshift and knew you were an annoying **** who likes to give cheek, I would pull you as often as possible :]

Hardly. I come out of a club at about that time with a mate and usually a couple of birds etc and just jump in my car and drive home. Im not a erratic driver. I drive fine and at the speed limit etc.

My cars not a rust bucket, it has no mods what so ever. Mark 6 ford fiesta.

As far as im concerned Morba, the police = joke haha. You come out of a clubs and you see them just giving people hastle, sit there going what the you looking at and trying to arrest someone, being ridiculous. It's all because when they were in school they used to get picked on and bullied and this is their way of getting back at people. Losers.

Wait, so you come out of a drinking establishment at 3AM with a mate and a couple of women you've picked up, then get into a Fiesta and drive home and you wonder why you're getting pulled?

Presumably you seem sober enough that they don't bother breathylising you, so that's a good thing but you really can't see why they have reasonable grounds to think you might have been drinking, especially in the run up to christmas.

Sweeping generalisations for maximum point score! It's lucky my religion is against personal insults otherwise my keyboard would literally be (not quite) disintegrating. Now, read my first sentence again please. Now touch your nose. Now look to the left. Now jump out of your preferably 3rd floor or above window. If you have a juliette balcony all the better. How pointless are they? Very. And if you have herpes can you leave a note on yourself so any ... ok sorry I'll stop.

I go past Slough on the beautiful M4 quite a bit, I don't see many illegal plates, but I probably just ignore it now, along with all the other crap driving going on.
