VW Golf MK4 2.0 GTI

My dad has a 2000 GTi 2.0.

Computer is showing 31.7MPG as average mileage, mainly used for 10 minute drive to work and back each day.

Incidentally its for sale : D

well im looking to get a 2002-2004 golf, recently had a 1.6se but some idiot pulled out on me from a side road whilst i was doing 60mph...would it be worth getting a 1.6 or a gti?

the 2 litre shouldnt be called a Gti..doesnt it only knock out a pitiful 115 brake or something?

the 1.8t came it 150 and 180 guise for the mk4 I think

The 1.6 is better in just about every way. The 2.0 is an old bag of bolts and since they slapped the emissions gubbins on it in the Mk4 it drinks oil. There's a bit more low end torque but not that you'd notice unless you are looking for it.

and the 1.8t is pretty damn nasty. that should say a lot about the 2.0
Why?

yeah it has tole old 8v gti engine in a car that needs so much more. even the 150bhp of the 1.8t isnt enough for the car so if you do get one get it tuned to 200 ish by a revvo.

Matt is correct, the 150BHP 1.8T has the same attributes as a VAG diesels (nothing under 1800RPM, 1000RPM of reasonable shove, then nothing, coarse as an old Ford CVH), without the fuel economy. And the 2.0 is all of the above with no power.

The above two items are a load of tosh, please go and spew inaccuracy someplace else.

I always thought the 1.8t were pretty good. Easy to tune depending on the turbo. K03 or K04 (the better one) Never heard of them being nasty.

We had a pool car Golf 1.8T GTI (with wood interior...) back in 2002, drove it plenty of times and found it coarse and not particularly quick. Bloke at work had a 225 TT which was quick but incredibly dull to drive. From the GTI Mark IV's peers id take a CTR everytime. The current VAG 2.0 TFSI engine is a gem though.

Thats all well and good but whats a dull drive got to do with, as you put it, a very narrow powerband?

Which is news to every single 1.8T owner btw.

my 1.8t boosts like a mofo from 2000rpm until 6000rpm ;)

then will also do 45mpg+ if you want to

crap engine
