Checkin Vista 64bit compatibility

What do you need to check?

As far as i'm concerned, if you've a 64bit cpu then it will work... Drivers get updated all the time, so I doubt any widget/program would be able to tell you if something had 64bit drivers.

Windows is pretty spot on for 95% of items in terms of support without external drivers.

I'm getting a Lappy with VistaHome 64bit on it and I was gonna ask this very question!...

The Software I'll be running on mine is:

AutoCAD 2009 (I know there's a 64bit version on the disk)
Photoshop CS3
CorelSuite X4
Nero Ultra v7
Office 2003 Professional (including Frontpage)

there's a few others I'll have to dig out the list!..

64bit has very good compatibility with 32bit programs...

There is the odd one that doesn't work, but you'd be hard pressed to find a recent program that wont work.

Software is almost always fine (unless it uses kernel drivers and/or shell extensions) - it's hardware that can be difficult.

Having said that, the only bit of hardware I have that doesn't come with an x64 driver is my Canon LBP5000 colour laser printer. I've gotten around it by having it plugged into my G4 Mac Mini (which is always on as a low-power file store) and using Bonjour to share it.

Simian All that software will run fine on 64bit Vista

Cooooooooooooooooooooool...

Gonna go out and buy the Laptop tomorrow now!...

HP HDX18-1005EA... its about the only laptop (in my price range) that has Vista 64bit installed!... all the others have 32bit and thus only see 3.2Gb of the 4Gb RAM.. :)

I've googled and it seems most of my software will work so that looks good, The only unkown is a Firewire card that I have in there - cant even remember what make it is and bugger all written on the card!

Is it possible to install a trial version (does it exist?) and see it works, then pay and activate it at a later date? I seem to remember there being 30day trials around but then i could be talking out of my bum :D

You can buy a laptop with Vista 32bit on and use a 64bit disk to install Vista 64 and utilise all of the RAM. That means you are not tied to one particular laptop
