Just played ff7 with the emulator for aa and af etc but i find myself wondering if theres a nice rpg like this or similar with 2d art backgrounds with 3d models but erm high modern res and poly counts. Perhaps with speech would be a big plus.

Anyone know of one? I dont want a full 3d game like nvn2 or sacred 2 etc i want 2d backgrounds as a must.

FF VIII on the emulator looks far superior..might be worth a look if you don't have any luck finding a proper PC rpg.

I have 7 8 and 9 for psx and use emulator to get aa on tho still far too crap looking and low poly and low res textures. I want something more 2005-2008 dated games.

I think the early FF games have dated better than 8-10, sure they're ugly but they're characterful and ugly. I've never come across anything before or after FF7 to match it, to be quite honest. FF 11 is prettier but I just can't get into it.

The last remnant will be coming out on PC, its made by square enix so it should be good. Currently its only out for the Xbox360, and PS3/PC release dates havn't been annouced yet.

theres this game called persona 4 coming out for ps2 soon or something? might be good? :D

you should be able to emulate that.

just watched some videos of the last remnant on the website, looks sluggish >.>

Unfortunately although graphics and the like have got better, I've never seen an rpg again after FFVII that had such large scale events :(

Honestly don't know why not.

ps2 emulators are a bit rubbish IMO, none of them work too well. As for the last remnant, what do you mean by sluggish? From what i read it is similar to the final fantasy games, but with a new battle mechanics and they didn't have to make the game for all ages, they were allowed to focus on a more mature audience.

I had one ps2 emulator, it worked pretty well for a few games, KH2, Katamari... tekken 5 just didnt work :D

i watched the battle sequences, unless they include a setting where it speeds up a battle, i'll get pretty impatient lol

Only game i tried was final fantasy 12, and that didn't work right because of the lack of analog sticks which if i remember right were essential or something. I cant remember exactly, all i know was that it was a issue to do with controls.

You won't really find much JRPGs on the PC for the simple fact that its a different market, plus theres a lot of other issues. It's more of a console mainstay genre as it has been for decades. Besides, I have the PC versions of FF7 and FF8 and I can say they are absolute crap and inferior to their PlayStation counterparts. Only other JRPG I can think of that has had a PC port is Breath of Fire IV, but its a pretty dated game since it was released in 2000 for the PS1 and then 2003 for the PC.

As someone has mentioned before, there will be a PC version of The Last Remnant (It runs on the Unreal 3 engine), but then its difficult to find anymore after this. Perhaps if this game does well on the PC, we could see more from Square-Enix or other Japanese RPG companies, but until then, its going to be a tough market area to crack when the huge majority of PC gamers are the Western kind, FPS, RTS etc. And most people buy JRPGs for consoles anyways.

Yes just like on the PS2, the analogue joysticks control the movement (left) and camera direction (right) of the character. The D-pad is for moving the pointer on menu screens.

Personaly i hope the last remnant does do well if it means that square enix will make more PC games. I love the final fantasy series, but not so much that i would buy a console. Consoles cost a large ammount of money, and considering i would only play final fantasy style games on it, it simply isnt worth the expense. I bet there are other people in similar situations, who would love to play the games but simply cant justify the expense of a console for only a couple of games.

Apart from the PS3, consoles aren't THAT expensive when compared to major PC hardware upgrades every now and then. And theres still a huge selection of JRPG games for the PS1 and still ongoing with the PS2.

It's dog turd.

The OP should find the older FFs and maybe even Chrono Trigger. Legally emulated. You must... own the original games technically.

Think he's referring to the epic scale of the storyline, which is magnified and exposed through superb characters. A real rarity in a game. Most other RPGs have a storyline that feels as though it was tacked together from bits of CGI they had lying round. They don't feel as 'big' because their characters are not as well developed as FF7's, or as humanly weak; you don't get the sense that there is any real danger to them.
