VW Golf MK4 2.0 GTI

ko3s, front mount plus a ton of other bits

held 21psi upto 6krpm i think... look at that diesel delivery though

what's so exciting about having to scream its **** off before you get any TORX1! anyway? If you want something that does that then get something with VTEC y0, personally i like to be able to overtake in 5th gear at 2-3krpm

I don't disagree with what the graph details, but i do disagree with the way people (2) are moaning about the power delivery, they seem to be saying its nothing then everything for 1k then nothing for the rest of the rev range.

Yes you have a torque spike, so what, every 1.8T i've been in pulls hard to almost the redline, you can indeed feel a slight torque spike but its not like you get to the omg 3.5k i've got to change gear the engine still pulls very hard and tbh i don't notice a drop off in the rate the speedo climbs.

Facts are the 1.8T must be one of the greatest engines (from a tuners point of view) ever built coupled with the fact i've never heard anyone else talk about the 1.8T like this puts these 2 in the minority.

Make it 3, and i know others. Its about as dull as a Turbo 4 banger can be TBH. More akin to diesel than a petrol engine.

4...Only been in one as a passenger (but many times), pulls very strongly at lower revs, but really does tail off above 5k (LCR). Can go quickly, just a bit dull imo

I agree they aren't very interesting as standard, or even with a tame remap...but with an aggresive map they are a completely different beast ;)

hence having mine about a month tops before getting it remapped, if I didn't know about the tuning possibilities I'd never have bought one based on the standard drive

I know the torqure drops off but it sure does have a fair amount of it.

Then again you would hope so at 23psi.

IIRC his was ~270bhp, so more then standard but not hugely increased power :)

I've been in a few with that amount of power that were no where near as fun as mine (~210-220bhp), it all depends on the map. Mainstream mappers, such as the likes of custom code etc will map them to have the power at mid-late range and top end stuff, whereas the more custom ones you can get them to map it so it starts boosting hard at 2000rpm like mine and keep it going til the red, that's when they get fun :p

but will probably need a new turbo at some stage

Which remap did it have, member off these forums? Comming for a rubbish fiesta diesel van i don't know how you can call a 270bhp LCR not fun.

Mines boosting to 23psi atm on quite an agressive map and tails off to 17psi or so.

Matt, that valver plot is from your car isn't it? I think I recognise the plate. Have you had it mapped at AMD or was it one of those ebay chips that people were buying on CGTI? Also what else have you had done for it to be putting out 170bhp. :)

Overworked turbo ***

Spikes to 23 and then tails off, KO3's is at peak effeciency around 18psi anyways and its not making any funny noises, boosts quite fine and looking at the above KO3's plot doesn't harm the bhp levels and torque drops off towards the redline as usual.

If it goes bang then so what, i'll do a rebuild and put a bigger turbo on, this KO3's has done less than 10k it only has to last another 10k.

I didn't say it was not fun (I found the car overall very fun), just that the power delivery was a bit dull. I may only drive a 'rubbish fiesta diesel van' (which, as it happens, has a nice linear power delivery), but does this mean I cannot form a valid opinion after experiencing various NA, turbo'd, and supercharged cars (various clios (16v, 172, 182), R5 GTT (mid engine one), several imprezas (330bhp P1, ~300bhp STi Type RA), MK1 MR2, MK2 MR2 turbo+NA, supercharged Saleen Mustang, Prelude 2.2 vtec, MG ZS 180 etc....all of which give me no experience on which to base hundreds of miles in a Leon Cupra R?

EDIT: Not sure what map it had, wasn't a member on this forum (mate from uni)

Whilst you can get an impression of a car from the passengers seat and to some extent can indeed comment on the car and engine, until you drive any of the above forum members cars then its hard to build a solid judgement on a particular engine.

Or so i find anyways.
