VW Golf MK4 2.0 GTI

I agree that driving is needed to form a better opinion on each engine, I was just stating the above to show that a diesel fiesta van (80bhp ***), was not the only engine I had experience of apart from the 1.8t in a mates LCR :)

Spikes to 23 and then tails off, KO3's is at peak effeciency around 18psi anyways and its not making any funny noises, boosts quite fine and looking at the above KO3's plot doesn't harm the bhp levels and torque drops off towards the redline as usual.

If it goes bang then so what, i'll do a rebuild and put a bigger turbo on, this KO3's has done less than 10k it only has to last another 10k.

Yeah its probably fine, i just know of few setups that do that as the turbo chokes up. Depends of course how much air is flowing but its a bit misleading to say that its at peak efficiency at that boost, you only need to look at the compressor map to see thats not the case, although its only marginally less should be atleast 70% adiabatically efficient.

What sort of air inlet temps are you getting with that boost? Or is this a 'its okay cos it hasnt blow up' statement? :p

Im no sure where having to drive specific cars with modified engines means you can discredit the opinions formed on the OEM engine calibration/setup?

Not looked at the EGT or Intake temp, i really should log them in VAG-Com :P

When i got the remap done i know the ignition timing was advanced a fair amount and on last look i didn't see any retard happening on Vag-Com however that was 6 months + ago now, weakest link in my system (in its current form) is the intercooler which is something that needs upgrading and was actually thinking of starting a thread soon about :)

Or is this a 'its okay cos it hasnt blow up' statement? :p

Have to admit that sounds about correct :P

Whilst we're on the subject, does anyone have a 25th anniversary? I love the looks and the all round general comfort of the golfs but are there better ways to spend 7k?

Get an LCR for that money, better looking than the Golf and quicker.

Why does it have 225BHP compared to 180BHP from the same engine? Different turbo or something?

Does the difference affect the remap potential?

I prefer the looks of the golf but the LCR is definitely very nice.

The 2.0 GTi is gutless, took one out last year, ended up getting a V5 instead which is very nice, big time guzzler though.

Matt, that valver plot is from your car isn't it? I think I recognise the plate. Have you had it mapped at AMD or was it one of those ebay chips that people were buying on CGTI? Also what else have you had done for it to be putting out 170bhp. :)

hiya, yup the plot is from my car. we did a RR day there not long ago, which incidently had an A3 (agu ko3) on a custom code map, that only got 171bhp (dynos do not give bhp accurately etc but its nice to compare between cars with)

mine has one of those ebay chips (blitz chip or something, £30). a flowed throttle body. those are the only mods that have made a noticable difference. it has a supersprint exhaust but they never make a difference

its a standard well looked after engine thats on 194k miles

cambelt change today...

ps im sure ko3s came on the 150 engines too, a guy i know has a mk4 with a ko3s, standard apart from remap.

oh and look at the comedy AFR on this 20vt remap, im sure it was custom code too

Facts are the 1.8T must be one of the greatest engines (from a tuners point of view) ever built coupled with the fact i've never heard anyone else talk about the 1.8T like this puts these 2 in the minority.

lolz i take it you post on audisport or ukmk4s then? of course theyre going to say its the nuts

put a decent turbo on there and you have a good engine, they last well too.

when coming back from the ring, one of the A3s coming back with us got 47mpg (i only got 42!)

but the 20vt is not "one of the greatest engines ever".

oh, that was considered safe too. and he had had paid a lot of money for their custom map (stage 3 or something) their stage 1 and 2 remaps are just generic.

custom code... nice!

apr did the best outputs i saw

the only 150 that comes standard with the k03s is the polo gti, unless the ibiza fr has it...need to check that one
