Those who thought LighterLife was dangerous, here's your proof

530 calories a day is insanely low, even double that amount is far below what anyone should be taking in. I don't understand how anyone can possibly go about their day to day lives with such a deficit of energy.

Take it anyway you want, it's fact. Science doesn't lie. :p

I'll say it again: The only way to lose weight in a healthy, controlled way and to keep the weight off is to eat a balanced diet, use more calories than you consume and have at least thirty minuets of exercise a day..

Anything else is just marketing bumpf.

Except I did lose four stone on it, moved on to a balanced diet, and I've changed my lifestyle too. That's also fact. If it wasn't for lighterlife helping me see a physical change in a short space of time, I wouldn't have made these changes, because I wasn't able to stick to diets before.

It does work, but I think you need to have been in the mindset, like I was, to understand it.

When you go into ketosis, your body fat is used for energy, and there is around 3000 calories in a pound of body fat. Most of the time I felt more energetic than I ever have. Also my skin cleared up, my hair/nails cleared up and felt pretty good.

It's a much slower and less efficient process than using glycogen stores though, so the energy isn't 'on tap' so to speak.

Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I don't see why people can't simply lop 500 calories a day off their existing diet rather than go for such a dramatic cut. You'll lose a hell of a lot of lean muscle mass cutting calories so dramatically, which definitely isn't healthy. However, it seems that many people just want to lose 'weight' rather than fat, which is what they ought to be aiming for.

Thats actually incorrect, to an extent anyway. in ketosis you will burn far less muscle than on a "normal" diet because you stay in fat burning mode and you never leave fat burning mode. On a normal siple 500 less calorie diet you will always first burn carb's, your body doesn't instantly switch to fat only and the 2nd most available resourse after carbs is muscle, you will naturally burn muscle before fat burning kicks in and because you should be eating less calories each meal than you need before the next meal you will switch what energy you use each time and each time burn a little muscle.

The idea of ketosis is that you are always in fat burning mode, when you eat, you're still burning fat, when you don't you burn fat and theres never the switch/slow down that causes muscle to be used up in an emergency.

You need to realise, you will NEVER burn only 530calories, thats what you INTAKE, but your body has 3500calories available from each pound of fat you have. If you eat 530calories, your body is likely to burn between 1-2k calories a day of fat to compensate, theres entirely nothing wrong with that.

AS for lighter life being dangerous down to the OP's link. Firstly had she drunken that much water on ANY diet, including eating 2 pizza's a day and gaining weight, a normal healthy maintainance diet or eating whatever else she would have still died.

Every single point Lysander makes is factually incorrect, as has been said they tell you of the dangers of drinking to much water, they give you advice on how to eat a healthy diet aftewards and how to gradually change over, its all correct and fine advice but its all there.

She killed herself by drinking to much water theres really nothing else to say about it, she's a moron, a total moron.

One day I'm going to make a diet DVD and hype it to death until release. When people put it in the player it'll just display the line "calories out > calories in" for 90 minutes.

The Science Diet as endorsed by Lysander & LordSplodge. Buy your copy now, only £14.99. Not available in shops.

moved on to a balanced diet, and I've changed my lifestyle too.

Well at least some good came out of it! :p

Somebody needs to get a large stick and beat women (and men) with it until they get the message:

There is not quick fix diets. Healthy eating + less calories in than out + plenty of exercise = weight loss.

That's it. No stupid cabbage soup diets, no stupid GI diets, no stupid LighterLife diet.

That is completely untrue.
there are quick fix diets and they work very well. The diets are not the problem, its the person who does the diet, those who decide to go abck to eating the same as what they did before.
that is not the diets fault, but the persons fault.

lighterlife works
atkins works
v diet works
etc etc etc

I'm currently 3 days into a week of not eating entirely. Why? Because I've always wanted to and to see what happens.

Maybe I'm related to this woman :D

why would you want to see what happens when you eat nothing?
plenty of info on starving yourself online rather than doing it yourself.

stupid idea imo.

Daily geek do you mind if I add you to msn, as im starting lighter life soon and have read allot of the blog. :)

THIS.. ... for years i wanted to lose weight, i tried bursts of stupid ' i wont eat/drink this for a month ' etc.

Last year i changed my diet ( we are all on a 'diet' ) I now keep a close eye on how much fat, sat fat, and salt i consume.

Result of this? Lost 3 stone since March and my weight has been steadily about the 13stone 8lb mark for 2months.

Just wish more people would realise its about getting the balance right.

Drinking that much water in such a short period... :( amazing what people will believe to drop a couple of pounds

The reason is that proper dieting is hard, damn hard. You have to have the willpower to stick to eating healthy, eating less and doing exercise. Never-mind having the patience as you don't lose weight fast.

Tell me about it, cutting out the junk food, not eating huge piles of the regular stiff (2 rounds of toast, not 8, that sort of thing!) and doing some more exercise has helped me cut down from 15st3 to 15st3 over the last 3 weeks.

Gah :(

In the long run it will work better than any other diet though. If you stick with it you will become accustomed to eating a proper diet, which even if you don't do enough excercise, still helps your overall health.

The best way to lose weight once you've started eating properly like you have is to count how many calories you take in, and then excercise at least every other day to try and burn more than that amount of calories.

This reminds me of the women I saw in WHSmiths this week. They asked the staff if they could use the lift for the disabled, because they couldn't be bothered to use the stairs. They even used it to go back down:eek:. If you manage to make a change to your lifestyle then you've already cracked it, you just need to stick with it.

They actually said that they couldn't be bothered or you assumed that?

@ Daily geek
think Lighterlife is something we do at the pharmacy I work at but its called Lipotrim. It's fine and healthy but it just depends if you've got the willpower to live off shakes for a few months! It definately works. Good luck with it, you seem to be doing really well

I was stood behind them, and they got to the bottom and one of them started whining about how she couldn't possibly get to the top, and the other said yeah lets go and get someone to sort it out. Then after I'd finished shopping they went and got staff to let them in the lift to go back down. I was just gob smacked and I really didn't think anyone would be that lazy.

People shouldn't think of eating less junk food and doing exercise as a diet, they should see it as a new better healthier lifestyle.
