hi every one I'm new here nice to meet you all I just want to know what motherboard I should get for £100 or just over I want it to be a good overclocker oviobsly. I only ever use 1 gfx card. I have duel core intel e6400. Thanks in advance

Yea i wanna get new motherboard but i have a OEM version of xp so if i bought a new motherboard would i have to buy a new version of xp/vista?

Another vote for the P5Q here too

As for new O/S, have a look on OCC (overclockersclub) and you'll find a sticky somewhere on how to swap hard drives without having to re-install, it basically involves removing the drivers for any differing hardware between the systems and as a parting shot removing the chipset drivers for the old mobo.
This will cause your system to very likely not boot.
Build next PC, add hard drive, boot up and install the chipset drivers (ICH10 in the case of the P5Q) from the disc. and you should be good to go.
However there's nothing like a proper install to clear the tubes, run Belarc Advisor to find your licence number and then borrow someone elses disc, Install Windows from that and put your number in when prompted, if it prompts you to do the automated phone call thing then do that..job done.
No laws broken, you've paid for the Windows you are using, just upgrading hardware that's all.

Edit, I see you've got your own OEM disc, just let it prompt you for the telephone registration, I've never heard of it being refused because of upgraded mobo's.

I have changed motherboards in the past and had to phone Microsoft to reactivate my OEM windows. If you tell them your mobo was faulty you will be ok.

ok thanks ill go for the p5q prob get it next week but im sure ill have to buy a new copy of xp is there a link to that occ forum page Guzzidom?

I'm im the same boat as samster, looking for a quad core motherboard for around the £100 mark max.

Most people have mentioned the asus, can anyone tell me the difference between the following please...

Asus P5QC iP45 Socket 775 Motherboard

Asus P5Q PRO iP45 Socket 775 Motherboard

Asus P5Q iP45 Socket 775 Motherboard

The first 2 in the list are around £10 more then the 3rd. All are below £100 though, so which is best value for money, if you were thinking about getting a quad core and overclocking.

Not heard much about the 1st & 3rd motherboard you listed but i do have the P5Q Pro myself and im very happy with it! I've managed to overclock my E8400 to 4Ghz and idles at 35C, im well chuffed espcially at the price they are!
