Import/Customs Fees Question

Are you getting fed up of repeating that yet? ;)

d3moliti0n, if it was sent via surface or airmail it'll arrive by Royal mail in the UK, in which case you'll get a little card through the door with a message along the lines of "We have your package, if you don't pay the ransom the DVD's get it" ;)
Which can be paid either (from memory) by posting it back with the correct stamps, or you can go down to your local sorting office, pay it there and pick the package up at the same time.

Ah ok, I've just been reading around on different forums about people ordering DVD's and stuff from that company and some had the item travel to Germany first, and then to the UK and sometimes they got away with not paying fees.

Duty threshold increased for goods bought outside the EU to £105 as of 1st of December :)

Well I was waiting for somebody to mention this :)
Since 1st December it has been £105 which has been useful as it covers those more expensive Blu Ray & DVD purchases.

As for the "Mark it as a gift" people - yer, that is how you fox our customs boys.
In fact if you get yourself a couple of kilo of Columbian best and write "This is not a bag of drugs" over the packaging they believe you!

Best way is to get it declared as books then you dont have to pay any taxes on it either.

Although, in fairness to customs, they dont really care about drugs, thats what random checks with sniffer dogs is for. Amusingly they do it for credit cards as well, least they do around here.

....

except all, (or at least the vast majority), of the charge is the VAT and admin fees not the duty. VAT, as per the article, is payable from £18 still and is unchanged so the actual amount you pay will hardly change (if at all).

I wish that it was the VAT limit being raised as well as that would save me quite a bit .... :(

Aye, at least for normal post it tends to be a bit hit and miss, with larger/more recognisable retailers getting hit a lot more often (in my experience).

It was from erm....that really big place...., i was really surprise it wasn't caught. Saved me about £30.
