Want a better 50mm - the Canon 1.4 or the Sigma 1.4?

So, my thrifty is bugging me, and I've got a bit to invest in a better 50mm prime. Canon 1.4 is an obvious upgrade, but people also seem to be raving about the Sigma. Some are saying better IQ than the Canon 1.2

but there are apparently reported problems with focussing.

So, what do people think -play it safe with the Canon 1.4, or hope that sigma have sorted issues out and get that instead?

Or, if someone wants to suggest something else to buy instead, feel free

The Sigma is indisputably better, it's just whether or not it's £100 better. I don't think you'll go far wrong with either, tbh.

350D at the moment, but it's getting on a bit and I'll probably upgrade in the new year.

to say the IQ is better than the 50mm f1.2L isnt much praise though, it's one of the worst L lenses ever

it sure is no 85mm F1.2.

Well, in the end I got the canon. The sigma is nice, very nice, but seeing as this is mainly an upgrade to give (a) better AF, (b) better bokeh and (c) better speed, I couldn't really justify the rather large amount more the sigma was. So far, it's working out pretty good

i will be following suit at the ne of the month, just sold my 1.8 to get the 1.4
