RAF scrambled to intercept Russian bombers.

so the typhoon would still have one hell of a job catching up with it, combined with the fact it's payload is capable of travelling at anywhere between free fall and mach 5-6 means there's not a hope in hell of a typhoon ever stopping one if it was on the war path.

It might get it after wards bet defiantly not before.

surely the Typhoon(s) would be heading towards the threat rather than coming up the rear (fnar)

Well they'd be coming at an angle yeah, but by catch I mean get within weapons range before the bombers had a chance to fire off its load (:p)

Aster 30, as fitted to the Royal Navy's new Type 45 destoryers can do Mach 4.5+.

Then of course there is the UKs principle surface to air missile system, the Rapier.

The Typhoon doesn't even need to be near the target to fire it's weapons, and a bomber is never going to outrun an AMRAAM missile is it!!

General public seems to maintain the view that they fight with nothing more than AKs and everything else is rusting away somewhere. While they are certainly nowhere near as strong as they were during heights of Cold War if they decided to have a war with us their land forces wouldn't even need to get involved.

Really can't see why everyone making such a big fuss about this.

So how strong are their airforce/navy?

almost 7 thousand Nukes, verses about 150. yeah that'll work.

we have 200.. and it doesn't really matter who has the most its who has the capability of launching them and who does first. We have the trident system, and im sure the Russians have a similar system but if u think they could launch all of them your having a giraffe!

well we keep less than 150 on the subs. the Russians keep well over 2 thousand preped and ready in silos

Why are we even talking about nukes anyway? There is very little chance Russia would dare launch nukes when we could place 150-200 nukes on there most populous cities meaning it would be a lose lose situation for both sides.

I'm pretty sure i've lost most of my hearing due to the fact that tornado's take off about 100m from my front door at work :o

I've just realised how funny this thread is, people who think they know what they are talking about but in reality to us that know just that little bit more its actually very funny.

Bascially the russians just flew in the area to say 'harrow, we are still here, scared?' and then flew out again.

Its like teasing your friend, putting your finger infront of their face saying 'not touching you, im not touching you, not touching you, not touching you' while you get very very annoyed.
