RAF scrambled to intercept Russian bombers.

It could potentially save millions of lives...
Someone builds a missile, so someone else builds a counter measure. The first person then decides that obviously his missile isn't good enough so improves it, then the second person again improves his counter measure. It's called an arms race and they're older than time itself, as previously mentioned it's futile.

Exactly. A nuclear war could potentially throw the worlds climate and atmosphere into dissarray. The land would be unusable for a long while and most people would be dead or mutated.

It really does benefit no one.

It could potentially but on a cost/benefit analysis it probably simply isn't worth it, if we are ever at the point where nukes are launched it doesn't end well for either side regardless of whether one side just might be able to intercept a missile or even several. Relying on MAD makes rather more sense both fiscally and logically.

As has been mentioned cockroaches aren't particularly likely to survive a nuclear war, my money would be on Lemmy personally.

Sounds like a great scenario for a game though ;)

We may not and yet it would still be a better use of resources than trying to build a system that will shoot down nukes in the unlikely event of them being launched.

hmmm, I'm not sure I agree, but I'd need to do more research to really form a strong enough opinion, and I have better things to be doing atm tbh :p

I hope it will be as awesome as the last one...

I prefer Bash at the Beach, Whitby bay?

Frankly they are just interested in our and other NATO (Norway, etc) response times, since they would have to pass near our airspace if they want to send any long range bombers to Eastern coast of US (well unless they want to fly above entire Europe instead :p). With us they can just squash us without any planes or even getting anywhere near outspace.

General public seems to maintain the view that they fight with nothing more than AKs and everything else is rusting away somewhere. While they are certainly nowhere near as strong as they were during heights of Cold War if they decided to have a war with us their land forces wouldn't even need to get involved.

Really can't see why everyone making such a big fuss about this.

Ermmm no they wouldnt

They Russians are a falling Army and have old tech, I bet half of there Nukes dont work, if they decided to start a war with the UK we can safley say the USA would back our back and most of out Allies, plus do you not think we have Nukes?
