Sony support for PS3 - spot on

Im hoping to be impressed - though Professor Layton has his claws on me atm :)

Question before I replace the HDD, since Ill have my current PS3 HDD is there any point backing it up? Dno what the point is if they return the same PS3 or even a different 60Gb - assume I can just pop it back in, job done?

Anyone mind confirming? Dont want to waste time backing up for no reason, but then if I find out for some random reason I needed to (say to clone the data over rather than dropping it in) Ill kick myself :p

Sony's customer support is outstanding. They've been nothing but superb on my 3 console fails over the last 8 years.

Microsoft could learn a thing or two, believe me.

So you're taking you're HDD with saves on out, and replacing it with the original, sending it back to Sony, then putting your HDD back in when it's returned?


If I understand right. you should be ok without backing up. :)
 
Yep thats it exactly :)

Will update trophies before the swap and double check that my CC details are removed from the old HDD if it has anything - Ill also make sure it asks for the password for any actions too...

Bah the blue screw that holds the caddy is shredded so cant get the damn HDD out - gonna have a rest and try again in a bit...

Its back :D. 5 day turnaround the week before Christmas (picked up Monday afternoon - delivered 9am this morning)

Great, now bugger off and play Uncharted for christs sake. That's why your PS3 broke btw, it threw a strop because it hadn't had a chance to embrace the glee.
 
Tis only a few days - Ill still be here and my PS3 wont be broken!!! Good timing to get me back onboard with isac away for 2 weeks...

My ps3 just died randomly today, Updated guitar hero yesterday played it for a few hours then switched it off.

Went to play it today and it wont read disks at all, tried dvds cds etc, Hard reset and full format still nothing.

So they are replacing it 6th January, good service.
 
just seen the bumpage of this thread, my bad.

ps3ud0, glad to hear, i think i had mine back within 3 or 4 days too, as said very very impressed with Sony. the bag they delivered it in was a special biodegradable plastic one too, nice to see a company of their status caring about the environment anyway (its the little things i notice :D)...

DAvE18, yup sounds like same problem :) no biggy, mines working like a dream again now.
