Just got back from Uni earlier today and low and behold the car I should now be driving is a bit dead.. A 1995 Vauxhall Corsa b 8v

- It doesn't like starting (when it's damp??)
- The engine turns over but it's like there's no spark..
- The battery got dead quickly when I tried turning it over.. But I think that was down to my dad draining it :p
- The car starts if bumped down the road (although misfires for a little bit once started)
- Once driven around for a bit it starts up again fine unless left (until damp/cold??)

My dad said he's changed the spark plugs (despite I me changing them a few months ago) :p
My dad has given the wd40 on the distributor cap and wipe trick but the car in question has a coil pack a it's not ancient? so this isn't as relevant?:o

Anyone got Ideas what the issue is?

I'm guessing coil pack/HT leads/distributor cap :p:o

Cheers (hope I'm not sounding retarded :p)

Battery, i'd put money on it.

This was an obvious thought too.. Just from what I'm aware (only seen it this afternoon.. It is only when it's been sitting in the damp/cold... (all the time :D)

I might go out there In a couple of hours and give it a go.. If it doesn't work then I might try spray the HT leads with some WD40.. And consider the battery again too :p

If it starts when bumped then it strongly suggests there is nothing wrong other than the battery. Misfire is probably because you flooded it a bit trying to start it.
Being able to start after running for a while then shutting off, but not after a certain amount of time is textbook battery failure.

Just try a good battery on it.

You make a good case :p

Will go out and try again now..

Dreading going back to my car. It's been covered up and unused since September.. It's 20 years old and doesn't like the cold :p

Miss-fire would indicate leads of coilpack.. The leads are cheap, replace these first, then think about the coil.

Instead of the OP replacing anything yet. Find out the pot that's missing (cool exit on the fannymould), then swap leads if the misfire moves its the leads if not it's either a duff plug (again can be checked by swapping it) or the coil pack.

Zero cost diagnostics.;)

The OP has already done his plugs and whilst he may as well replace all the leads at once - I'd rather do all of them if one is on the way out. It's much more likely than the coil and even if it does turn out to be the coil, i'd rather have new coil/leads and plugs than new coil, old leads and new plugs.

Friend had a few simular thing;

Didnt start in the damp unless bumped or jump started (or cranked until 1 battery dead then started eventually on a second battery). Replaced leads and all the problems went away.
