BBC Sports Personality of the Year

I wouldn't describe Mansell as boring. May not have had the driving ability of others but pushed himself and his cars to the limit.

Indeed. Christ, Mansell is the man who ran his first race immersed in fuel, suffering chemical burns as a result. Mansell is the man who pushed his car over the line in Detroit one year, collapsing just as he got the car home. Mansell is the man who went from 12th on the grid at the frappin' Hungaroring and won. He's the man who raced while recovering from a pretty serious illness and ended up doing himself quite a bit of damage, who overtook Piquet with that maneuver going into Stowe corner at Silverstone, who went wheel-to-wheel with Senna at Barcelona and came out ahead, and who managed to earn the respect and adoration of both the notoriously fickle British F1 fan brigade and the Tifosi. This is not the hallmark of a boring man. This is the hallmark of someone who deserved every accolade he ever got, and a few more that he was denied.

And what has Hamilton done? Won some races and a title in a car that is the class of the field. Great. Super. Wonderful.

He might well become one of the greats....scratch that, he WILL become one of the greats. But he isn't yet.

I turned this off after the 'Young PC award' was given to Willow.

A complete joke. Laura Robson wins Junior Wimbledon and still doesn't win the award.

I hope Adlington wins if only for the shrewdies who backed her at around 500-1 on Betfair before the Olympics.

Acceptable and expected resullt. Would have liked to see Lewis win, but you are always going to struggle against a sucessfull olympian, and rightly so.

The Team award however was a joke. How is cycling a frickin team event?

Yes there are 3 or 4 that race together at times, but this was the whole GB cycling team. One bad performance in an individual race would not affect anyone else`s.

Team pursuit...... though I do agree it is a strange award...... :D As a club cyclist, the more awards for cycling in the public eye the better imho

This has been a very good year for the sport of cycling

I have nothing against the cyclists. No one was shouting at the screen during the olympics more than I, but if you are going to give a team event award, them yes, the team pursuit can win it, just not the whole GB cycling team.

Just stinks of a little bit of building up for 2012

;) I did not take you statement that you had..... ;)

I agree about that, but I am hoping it is in a positive way, Cycling in the past has not had a lot of funding, so any good publicity on the BBC is good.... hopefully someone will inject much needed cash into the sport, or for that matter anyother Olympic sport.
