RAF scrambled to intercept Russian bombers.

although if the Americans or Russians develop a reliable anti missile system, MAD goes out the window, and everyone's gonna get awful edgy.

But would it? If say the Ruskies launched at the USA, and the USA used it's shield, I would have thought the USA would still launch back at the Ruskies?

Come on, don't tell me you look at that and don't lol.

It's almost as bad as that incident with the Iranian dingies taking on an American warship

I absolutely adore the look of it. I honestly think it looks much better than the Typhoon.

The Typhoon is a much more advanced, and in a lot of cases more capable craft, but it does nothing for me in the looks department compared to Soviet stuff...

The TU-160 is indeed an impressive aircraft, however it cannot outrun a Typhoon, and it certainly cannot outrun the Typhoon's air to air weapons!! It also cannot ground to air weaponry.

It can only fly up to 49,000 ft, the Typhoon can fly up to a massive 65,000 ft

There are also only 14 TU-160s in the Russian Air Force, of which some are unable to fly. There are probably 5 modernised ones currently which can fly, and another 5 being modernised. The other 4 are not in a proper state to fly. The Russians plan to build a new plane every year until 2020 to make their total 30 though.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned the new Type 45 destroyers which are starting to be integrated into the Royal Navy now. I think 4 are now finished and another 2 currently being built.

They are the world's most advanced air defence destroyers and carry the full PAAMS system including 48 Aster missiles. The Aster 15 can do Mach 3, and the Aster 30 can do Mach 4.5 and travel up to 65,000ft!

The French Forbin and Italian Horizon, the ships designed on the same project as T45, are better in pretty much every way... Good thing we're selling 45's as soon as we recieve them.

Has no one noticed that the Government has delayed our new aircraft carriers, the Queen Elizabeth Class? That announcement was really quiet, appeared on the news once then just vanished.

We actually owe a bit to the French.

Not a mess at all, the odds were stacked against us and it was a logistic nightmare. Regardless, the effort by all the soldiers and sailors is orders of magnitude above what most other militaries could muster. You try yomping 60+miles carrying 80+ pounds.

exactly, they were stacked against us so much that it was stupid to attempt such a thing. Im not trying to take anything away from the people who fought as their effort was the only thing that won it for us. i was very supprized to see how vunerable we left ourselves at some stages. It needed to be done, but i think more planning and a bigger force was in order to ensure that we succeeded. if the missiles had exploded, it would have been bloody carnage.

No it's say America designs a system which works say 99% of the time in intercepting missiles. this means Russia essentially has no nuclear arsenal, which means America could attack with impunity or vis versa.

which ever made the shield would be able to threaten or attack the other with almost no risk.

Bye bye MAD.

What? And what?

The 45's are true destroyers.. the Horizon class definitely isn't and provides only close range AA. This is the whole reason the UK withdrew from the project.

And what the hell are you on about they're going to be sold?

What are you talking about man!

First of all, we're not selling them, they're already being integrated into the Royal Navy, and secondly, in what way are the Forbin or Horizon ships better?!

The reason that the UK pulled out of the Horizon project was because the Royal Navy demanded a more capable ship that the French or Italian's needed.

The UK required more capable ships which could throw a large defensive "bubble" over a fleet operating in hostile areas.

The UK ships have the SAMPSON system.

This is why only 4 Horizon ships were built - 2 for France and 2 for Italy, and then the rest of their orders were cancelled!!

Yeah, a few books I've got mention "Operation Mikado".... the only plan with high success was one that would be suicidal.

http://www.eliteukforces.info/articles/sas-versus-exocets.php good read too.

First into Action also mentions the anti-exocet tactics, and everyone should read that book.

Whether or not 'they make it in time' is irrelevant. The UK Nuclear Deterrent has measures in place for if we don't fire the missiles before central government is destroyed; the submarine acts autonomously if it is deemed that the chain of command no longer exists/is wiped out in a war scenario.

You mean wing attack plan R?
