I know the thread title is a bit shocking but..

I want to buy my Dad a Camera for Christmas.
He will use this mainly for work, to take pictures of mechanical failures on overhead cranes.

He is 58 and not very technically minded, therefore the User interface needs to be as friendly as possible.
He also has a shacky hand due to a cold syndrome that affects the joints in his hands, so it requires to have a good image stabliser and a decent auto focus.

Majority of these images will only ever be viewed on screen or printed on A4.

I was thinking about a Sony Cybershot as i have seen a few old models going for a decent amount in the bay.. is this the right way to go?

My budget for this is about £100.

Thanks :D

can say anything about sony cybershot but I'm currently using an Olympusu730 all weather compact camera. its 7.1 mp and has a 'high ISO' so may be suitable. I have got a few pics I've taken where that has been handy (hungover in liverpool on a trip taking photos the following day) and the images werent too shabby.

Canon Ixus 82IS, it's actually a few pence under a ton atm from a main highstreet retailer and is a fantastic little unit with a properly stabilised lens.

Thanks for the reponses..

A tripod can't really be used as he may be hanging from a cherry picker or something similar.

Range would kinda be an issue as sometimes he may be taking images of drive motors that are ~ 50ft above him.

I'll look into both of the units in question.. any more potential units to look into?
