Things I'm getting for Christmas

I am waiting till after Christmas and getting:

Stargate SG-1: Season 10
Stargate Atlantis: Season 3
Stargate Atlantis: Season 4
Stargate: Continuum

I do not want to pay full price for them, and they will go down after Christmas so will be good times ahead.

I got my gran the Supernatural Season 1 - 3 Boxset, which she should love to :D

Pretty much, pretty surprised by your responses in this thread, looks like I've been giving you a lot more credit than due.

My comment to which Mattus posted was "a lot of the people in the 'Life' forums generally seem to be normal people with a job or passing interest in PC's."

Quite how that can be turned around to say "Because clearly being really interested in PCs means that you can't be a normal person with a job or a social life?", I don't know. Its a silly assumption from Mattus which is proved wrong by most of the Life forum regulars (as I had said myself).

Surprised by my responses? Don't be. I am a person with an opinion, this is a forum that allows people to share opinions :]
Given the sheer amount of people here, peoples opinions will clash, thats forum life :]

When I was 13 I got a hand knitted cardigan, a Wallace & Gromit mug and a satsuma. If I'd asked for anything this kid is getting I would've been laughed at!

Ok, for tisonlyme to poke a stick I see, not one person commenting about that.

I think a few people have just assumed the worst in my comments;

seems your not allowed to get anything for christmas and must go outside

Yea how pathetic..

Yourself included, jumping on a band wagon. I never said people were not allowed to get anything and MUST go outside. But hey, you think that i did.

My case not helped by comments like:
I don't understand why a lot of people think computers are 'sad'. It's obviously his hobby and he should do what he enjoys most, which is probably guitar/computer.

I never said computers are sad. or that he should not enjoy hobbies.

Nevermind eh

Okay - this is probably nit-picking, but since you're making out that it's me in the wrong, I'll explain. Your comment:

I'm sure the General Hardware forum will be more than happy with his xmas list though :p
You may not have put it in so many words, but I'm pretty sure the implication here is something like: 'the Life forums are full of normal people with jobs who just happen to be interested in PCs, whilst the Hardware forums are full of people who sit in their basements reading PC specs all day.' In particular, your use of the word 'normal' when specifically discussing the 'Life regulars' makes this abundantly clear. So it's not a 'silly assumption' at all - if you think it is, you should be more careful with what you imply.

Clashes of opinions are indeed part of forum life. Nevertheless, signing up to a popular hardware forum and seeing fit to have a pop at people who are interested in hardware simply because you only ever browse the Life forums seems pretty rich to me.

I'm glad someone could be arsed to explain it to him :p

Meh, i'd rather not celibrate Crimbo, as i'm not a Christian. But you seem to get forced into it though.

Anywoo, Hopfully I will get a Roccat Kone to replace my G5.

I only ever browse the life forums? you would be mistaken. Infact, it is sheer laziness on your part to assume that.
I know that a lot of the people here browse and actively post in many of the hardware forums, lots of people cross over Hardware and Life forums. You are assuming that I think this is not the case (another assumption, good work).

I didnt say anything like that about the hardware forums lot, just that a post of his kind would have been more suited there where everyone is thinking on the same level, this is the life forums so its more open to general opinion. Of which, gurdas gave a dig, which skeeny clearly liked and strife212 also gave a dig (and the afore mentioned tisonlyme comment), yet I seem to be the only one getting stick about my comments.... sweet!

How about, if you think something is implied and you don't like it, question it. Rather than just ASSUME the worst.

I did not have a pop at people who are interested in hardware. I had a pop at a single poster who has asked for everything on his xmas list and knows what he is getting and is excited about a laptop HDD, vista and office more than anything else.

I'm glad someone could be arsed to explain it to him :p

I got the sense I was wasting my time, but I can't sleep :D

Explain that you both feel my comments were something that they were not, even after I had said they are not what you think they are, yet you still argue it.
Way to drag something out. Well done both of you.

He wants that sort of stuff for his PC at 13 years old?? At 13 all I wanted was Lego and Micro Machines :D

Woman at work is buying her 10 year old daughter a laptop - i'm not one to criticize as i have been really up-on computers myself since about 13 or 14 - but 10 is too young in my opinion :<

wow some right scrooges here, cheer up ya grumpy gits.

the most exciting christmas I can remember was at a similar age (11), parents bought me a brand new commodore vic20, used my xmas money from others to add a 16k ram pack!!!!, then spent the whole xmas holiday making a very crude first person maze game that because of my poor skills was a random maze that changed as you walked along so there was no way out lol.

now im a old git I dont know and don't care much about what people give me, i enjoy giving presents though and have spend about £1000 on bits and pieces for close family..

xmas is all about being with family with no work so you can just laze about, i love it
