Hi guys,

I am looking at getting my 51 reg Fiesta serviced in January.

I know people will go the car aint worth much it isnt worth it, but it will be a year ive had it and I'd rather be safe than sorry, theres a few things such as breaks I feel need doing anyway.

MY question is its done about 56000 miles, I know a lot of cars generally have to have certain bits changed at 60000.

What are these likely to be if there are any and are they expensive? Would it be done this year as I havent quite done 60k, but next will hit it next year

Thanks in advance

Matt

Every car needs regular servicing, even (especially!) older ones. I'm not sure why you'd think people would say otherwise  Or are you thinking of going to the main stealer? A good local independent place (ask friends/family) would be a better bet, and are the best people to advise you accordingly. They'll also charge anything up to half of the dealer prices!

Has it had a cambelt change in the past? If not it's close for it to be done i'd say.

I would change the cambelt and waterpump if it hasn't already been changed before. Get the belt & pump changed at your local garage and service the rest yourself. Its only oil, oil filter, air filter and plugs.

At 7 years old it may need the cambelt done. Check whether it's had it done, and when it had its last major service. If it hasn't had a major service in a long time you're talking about oil and filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, air filter, coolant, brake fluid, spark plugs.

Is it the 1.25 Zetec engine or the older 1.3 Endura? The 1.3 has a camchain, not a belt, if I remember correctly. And the cambelt interval on my Focus which is a 1.6 Zetec is 10 years/100K miles, so it might be the same for you if its the 1.25.

indeed 10 years/100k.

although haynes recommends the usual 40k, many owners change it around the 60/70k mark.

make sure all tensioners and pulleys are done at the same time as the belt itself.

Thanks for the responses guys, Looking at the logs it doesent look like its hard any of these bits done so aint going to be cheap i recon.

It is the 1.25

Will the garage know to replace these due to its age etc or do I need to point out that these things havent been done on a service before?

Thanks a lot

The garage should know/look up exactly what needs doing for that car when they quote you the price of the job.

Just put it in for a major service and if you get a reasonable quote for the cambelt+bits and are happy to pay it then go for it. Otherwise you 'could' delay for a year or so.

//note I am not liable for cambelt failure if you fail to change it. :)
