Football is a bit soft now, but only at the top level, and I think that is because of the continental influence we now have in the Premier League. Most of the English players are still pretty tough, but even some of them are influenced by foreign players and tend to play-act a bit (Joe Cole is a perfect example of this).
Also, there is so much money in football now and the players are worth so much that the clubs are desparate to keep everyone fit and healthy, and I think teams have been able to influence the rules and attitude of the game. Really though, I don't mind that we have had to sacrifice the physical side of football because that has been replaced by a generally higher technical standard in the game, there is much more skill and flair on show now and English teams are dominating Europe.
It was very petulant of Ronaldo and you could tell he was getting more and more annoyed as the game went on. It is obviously due to frustration that he hasn't been able to replicate last season's form.
