Hi all

I have a large HD Plasma TV at the end of my bed. Connected to that is my computer via HDMI and a V+ box both of which I use to watch TV and movies on the TV.

For sound I have a normal hifi in my room which obviously provides stereo 2.1 sound and all the right frequencies... but no surround and I feel like I'm missing out. I'd like to change this for a surround kit.

Is it possible to buy a quality all in one kit that won't break the bank, but will provide surround sound in my bedroom. Cables aren't an issue, I can run those under the floor, nor would wall mounting speakers. Ideally I'd want at least a 5.1 set, but I really don't want to end up with something that only has tinny sounding speakers and a over the top subwoofer trying to make up the difference.

This is what I see when I see products like the Creative GigaWorks 7.1 on OCUK's site, but I may be wrong?

On the amp I would like at least 2 digital inputs as I want to buy a bluray player and another from my PC, ideally 3 if possible for future XBox360.

So with all that in mind, any suggestions or websites I can start looking at to get the knowledge? :)

Oh and I'd like the amp to support Dolby 5.1 and DTS at the bare minimum. I suppose it would be too much to ask to have them support the new HD sound formats? :)

Not really, as you havent set a budget. That might be the undoing of getting HD sound though. You'll probably want a AV reciever for those input.

Budget system would be the Yamaha AV61 package as a starting point of £200 them move up from that if you want better speakers etc. You you get a HDMI repeating amp you wont need as many digital inputs in SPDIF format (ie digi coax or Toslink optical as the HDMI cable will carry the sound and video.

Hmm, well it's only a bedroom setup so say up to £300 and that needs to be amp and speakers.

I take it the Yamaha AV63 is the current model?

If you want to have HD audio then the cheapest option is the Sony STRDG820, which you can get for something between £229 to £250. The cheapest option for speakers would probably be the Yamaha NSP110 speaker package, which you could get for less than £60.
