kid not allowed to play Halo 3: kills mom, shoots dad

The gun didn't help but I do believe that video games do some of the damage. Parents are not regulating what their kids are playing and will happily give them an 18 cert to play.

On one hand you have everyone moaning about the slow decline or morals and decency in this country and then people think it's ok to throw 15 and 18 cert games at kids.

You can't have it both ways. Your just de-sensitising kids to this kind on violence. It's become acceptable.

Some parents will give their kids anything just to shut them up for 5 minutes of peace.

Actually in this case I think if they had not regulated what he was playing and they had let him play halo3 none of this would have happened.

TBH I feel a little sorry for my little one. As Miss K and I know about games and will be playing them forever he won't be able to pull the wool over our eyes and we will be able to tell which games he should and shouldn't play as well as advising his friends parents on the games also.

You won't stop him playing because of the age rating though, it'll be because he'd own you at them :p

It was during that time that he became fascinated with the Halo series and would play them for hours at friends' houses. His father forbade the games, saying that were too violent and sexually explicit.

Have I been playing the wrong Halo games?

There's clearly something wrong with the kid full stop. Nothing to do with the game.

Already been mention, but this quote annoyed me

because they wouldn't allow him to play the violent video game Halo 3

WTF?

I dread to think what he would have done had his 360 3RROD on him when he went to play it.

Sexually explicit? Is that the case? I haven't played Halo.

It's not a very violent game and its stupid to ban it when the guy was 16 (isnt it rated 16+?). It's also a stupid idea to keep guns in a house with a mentally unstable teenager.

Killing things in general is considered to be pretty violent tbh. Be it aliens or not.

The kid is messed up though at the end of the day, I wouldnt even think to lay hands on my parents if that happened to me, gun present or not!!

Before reading the article I assumed the kid was like 9 years old or summit. Jeez he was 16, why did his parents stop him playing? He is an adult at 16 lol.....

Exactly - if they just let him play it then he wouldn't have shot them... a lesson to us all to be learnt here I think. I know that from now on i'm going to let my kids have whatever they want whenever they want it - no harm can come from that surely! :p

You didn't read it too well did you. I think his Father's profession may have had an influencing factor in why they did not want him playing such a game.

(Ignore the contradiction of having a gun in the house, this is America and Americans are illogical by default where gun ownership is concerned)

At the end of the article it says the halo series is sexually explicit. WHAT?! The addition of one female character to a game makes it sexually explicit? The video game is always the first thing to be blamed...
