Who is ill today?

It's not life threatening, but being ill and being productive don't go together. If you're ill, and have something that could easily spread to your colleagues, I'd much rather you stayed at home.

Or, you could come in, make the rest of the office ill, and reduce productivity across the board?

EDIT: I should probably add, this is highly dependant on the kind of work you do.
Having a sore throat or a runny nose is not being ill. Illness is much more serious.

The incubation period of the common cold is 3-5 days. If everyone who caught a cold had a week off work the UK economy would grind to a halt.

I'm not suggesting everyone take a week off. However, if you wake up one morning coughing and sneezing (the cold is predominantly spread in aerosol form), it might be sensible to take a day off so as to not give it to your co-workers. Whilst the incubation period is 2-5 days, it is spread mainly during the sneezing and coughing stages, which are often short-lived, given ample rest.

Again, it does depend on what you do for a living - something where you need to be highly focused for the entire day, or require creative thinking, and you might as well take the day off. That way, your company loses your time for a day, as opposed to you coming in to work, doing very little, and infecting your colleagues, who in turn drop productivity.

Had the flu over most of the weekend, developed on Saturday, was at its worst on Sunday, died down a little on Monday, feel better now.
School tomorrow though, kinda looking forward to it.

It's a good job the OcUK workforce are made of stronger stuff than that, otherwise our customers wouldn't be getting there orders in time for Christmas.

If having a common cold renders you incapable of doing most jobs I'd be amazed. Britain is experiencing record levels of "sick" leave and that isn't good for the economy.

I have 'Man Flu' at the moment, as for the 5 a day question, i have probably not had 5 in as many years :P

Still up, and in work for half seven, though :-)
