Just put a deposit down on a New car!

We need to know how much you spent and then we can offer alternative 3.0 diesels at a quarter of the price suggestions which would turn out cheaper over the next 3 years. :p

But there comes a time when, for once, you just want something off the top shelf.

It's a Ford Fiesta.

Good value cars... when you don't pay £13,000 for them. This strikes me as a hugely flawed purchasing decision but hey - if you've made it work in your head then I guess you are happy. I wouldn't even entertain a Fiesta for 100 miles a day - thats seriously tedious motoring there and it's not really the stuff for a little city car. I await the day you buy a Maybach for nipping into town.

There is, however, one rather big flaw in your amazing fixed cost motoring plan. You won't get anywhere near 78mpg from it. At all.

Dont need a spare £1000 "for when" it breaks pot with a new Fiesta ;)

Hour each way in a new Fiesta, its hardly going to be terrible.

If you have never had a luxury car then you wont miss it.

For example:

My Peugeot was an upgrade from my Rover as I found it to be much better at everything and I would be happy using it to commute in if I had to. I see this as an upgrade. However Fox would never entertain this as he has gone from having a Mondeo to a BMW and it would be a backwards move.

Dont know you situation so I cant say what I would have done, however I imagine that in the current climate you got a good deal.

Is it in that green that was on TG the other week!? :D

I'd much rather put £1000 of the £13,000 aside for the better, more refined car. Infact I would have spent £8-9000 on something like an A4 and put the rest towards insurance and a 'when it breaks' fund. This car will hold it's value a lot better.

In 6 months, a £13,000 Fiesta will be worth about £10,000 max.

Thats a very good point, after 4 years this is going to be a car with over 100,000 miles on it. How much would a 4 year old 100k Fiesta be worth? Somewhat less than £13,000 I guess?

Enough less to completely cancel out the economy savings of suffering a diesel supermini for 2-3 hours a day?

Don't get me wrong, I like the new Fiesta. It's a great car. But it's a great town car, not a great Motorway munching car.

Only a problem if your going to sell the car really.

As he hasnt said how much it cost him you can only speculate about it too.

Repair bills are always a pain but replacing the possibility of garage bills with the certainty of 2k a year in depreciation doesn't seem that good a deal.

I just hope for your sake it's reliable, not all new cars are.
