Ronaldo Kicks Dawson

lol. Just lol.

I'd love to see football get to a stage whereby a player kicking another player in the area giving away a penalty doesn't get a yellow card anymore, rather a prison sentence.

While we're at it lets start charging rugby players with assault for each tackle they make, or maybe boxers can have a charge of a assault for each round of boxing they fight.

Seems to me that people are just jealous and would love to see someone be punished just because they don't like the person, rather than actually use any common sense and getting over their bitterness.

It wasnt a tackle though, it was just Ronaldo losing his temper and lashing out, nothing to do with the sport.

If a rugby player missed his penalty kick because one of the opposing team put him off, would he be in his rights to punch him in the face then? :o

Isn't it battery, rather than assault? ;)

Which falls under common assault. ;)

The difference is that those actions are within the rules of the game, punching is allowed in boxing but not in football, if a footballer punches another he will be subject to the full force of the law. Likewise here, an off the ball kick (I assume? Haven't seen the incident actually) is not within the rules and so can be punishable.

That is correct.. basically, Dawson tackled Ronaldo, they both went down, and while Dawson was up and starting to walk away, Ronaldo gave him a quick kick. Nothing to end a career... but still, it was stupid, and I think he should have been punished in some way!

Under usual circumstances no punishment would be nececerly but considering it's Ronaldo i'd fully support a 3 match ban ;)

Seriously though, he's been quite lucky to get away unpunished. IIRC he done the exact same thing a few weeks back and Aliadiere got a 4 game ban for nothing worse last season.

That's all Beckham did.

Well his sanction was the red card.

Yeah.. I've heard that if you are sent off in a match you can't recieve any form of fine or anything like that.. not sure if this is true?

Anyone know if he recieved a fine of any sort? Or if the above is true?

Football gets to the stage where if someone is too close to the player on the ball and its in the opposing team's half, he's gonna be going down quicker than a crack whore who has been promised a fix :D

What if the boxers are boxing and one of them bites the others ear almost clean off? :D

I assume there are some rules in "Professional" sports where by saying "he knocked me over" in a game of Rugby doesn't constitute assault? I suppose kind of like known dangerous working conditions or something?

Every amateur player that gets a card gets a fine with it. Whether it be a yellow card (usually £8) or red (£35+).

It's governed by the principle of volenti non fit injuria, basically means that to a willing participant no harm is done so by stepping into the boxing ring you've acknowledged there may be a risk to your health, by playing football you might get injured etc. There are actions that are over and above and won't be covered by this accepted principle (e.g. Drunken Duncan's assault on Paul McStay) but in general by playing a sport you've accepted there are risks attached.

Haven't actually seen the original tackle to comment yet so I'll not bother in that regard.

This.

Ronaldo is an utter **** but I think if it was anyone else nobody would have cared.
