Title says it all really, looking for a 50" plasma, money isn't really an problem as I want this to be the last TV I buy now for a good number of years (I've currently been upgrading every two years - 32" to 40")

I've seen the Pioneers for over 2k but are they really worth the extra as oppose to one of Sammy's 1k ones?

Basically which is the best out there?

Ta :)

you can get pioneers for 1500

True, for the 508XD.

It's is an excellent TV amd knocks everthing non-pioneer into a cocked hat. If you didn't want to save up for a 9th gen and wanted something better then the other usualy suspects then I suggest that you'd be very happy with this TV for this price.

Otherwise get saving for the PDP-LX5090.

You need to get yourself a demo, but how about I just save you the hassle:

The 5090 is the best tv out there PERIOD, and if you have the cash for it then just buy buy buy. You certainly won't be disappointed.

Search in this area for 'kuro time' and you will find my happy (bragging :p) thread when it arrived :D

Plenty of people will tell you to avoid Samsung TV's. Personally, my 50" Samsung plasma is one of the best things I have ever bought. £700 for one hell of a TV.

Yeah I know it seems to be like a popular thing to go along with (slating Samsungs). However I fail to see what people are complaining about. I think people must be referring to the LCDs (and just labelling everything associated) because there have been no problems at all with my Plasma and when configured correctly (dynamic contrast off etc) it definitely rivals a lot of higher priced TVs.

Unexpectedly got a pay rise today! :D

Maybe will be getting one sooner rather than later, really got my heart set on the 5090.....

Only you can decide that, but if I were buying now then I'd be saving up rather than buying now and regretting later.

Surely if you done that though, you'd never get a new telly? lol.

Go to an independant dealer and get a proper demo

Im sitting in front of a 5090 right now and its a very good tv (well if a tv can be a tv without internal speakers) but I was kind of expecting a much bigger difference between it and my 40" Samsung lcd, and for the £1000 or so difference and 18 months in time there isnt really

Until its home of course it was hard to do a side by side comparision as the newer LCD's are in some respects worse than the model I have, so its worth doing as many comparisons as you can

You also might want to look into the Panasonic PZ80 range - they are also astoundingly good for around £700 less than the 5090

have you got that 5090 setup well and what sources are you using?

it's surprising as i think you're the only user i've come across on forums that haven't been completely fapping about the set.....even those who came from already great 8g sets rave about them.

i saw the 6090 side by side against a samsung 50" plasma and the Kuro just blew it's socks of, even under the bright lights in the showroom the difference in black levels and contrast were clearly noticeable....the samsung looked totally washed out next to the Kuro.

Thing is when you take the TV home you're not going to have a side by side compariosn to show you how much better a Kuro is.
Thats when you REALLY notice the difference. But sometimes ignorance is bliss, and a big money saver too.

Currently using settings from AVForums thread (Bumptious I think), mainly HD-DVD (EP35) and PS3 for br (both hdmi through an Onkyo 805 amp)

I dont trust big showrooms, because you never know how well the tv's are set up (they could be "sponsored" by one firm, to turn down contrast etc on other sets ....which does happen frequently)

As I said, its a good set, even a very good set but whether its worth £500 - £1000 more than others is questionable to me

It may be the case that this set is just taking its time to settle and it will get better with a few more hours usage, only had it about a week so far

Im compariing it to My Samsung 40" lcd from about 18 months ago, (one fo the best M86s before they starting turning out carp) and it isnt that gobsmackingly different , kinda expecting to be blown away like going from 32" to 40" did for me all that time ago (as its the same ratio increase) it just didnt happen

yeh by all accounts it improves upto 200hrs which is when bumptious recommends ISF'ing....maybe in another week or 2 you'll have a completely different outlook.

I may well do, Im not sure about changing my mind by £1000 though lol, but more than happy adding a post or two at that point with my final decision

Snob with your Kuro :eek::D

If you must go for more inches then fair enough, but go for quality rather than quantity !

The Samsung Plasmas are comedy.

I look forward to gaming on the Kuro, still using the trusty A656 at the moment
