Just speed read this thread so not sure on the detail but god you must have done something terrible and are simply not fit to be living in freedom it would seem. To the gallows if you ask me!!

...oh....is that all he did...

Whilst I dont think commuting on the M-way is a horrible experience in a 'small car' 100 mile each way, will become pretty tedious, 30-40 each way is fine. Road noise will be intrusive, but just whack up the radio:p

11K tho:o

My mates just bought a Lexus GS300 for 2k, 98 model with all the trimmings, 90k on the clock, now when it goes wrong it will cost bloomin loads, but I'd rather buy 5 of those than spend 11k on a new car and kill it with that amount of miles.

Or on the same path, 11k buys one hell of a barge these days, and is how i choose to do my high mileage.

Fuel appears to be a concern here though, so these cars cant be compared :)

Sensible is not always the way people buy things or else OCUK would not exist. If we all applied logic to our buying decisions we'd live in one hell of a boring world. There are better ways to spend £13K without question, better ways to protect your 'investment' and better cars subjectively for the money but at the end of the day that can probably be applied to most peoples cars on this forum. Sometimes people want a new car, appreciate they will usually take a hit and that its far from a solid use of their money but you know what it feels nice and though that soon wears off its still something many people do, usually for silly reasons but we are all different and if you can afford it then who's to say you shouldn't. Just miss out the next 2 generations of PC and you've got your money back.

seriously guys. what would happen if NOBODY buy brand new cars then no cheap second hand cars anymore so somebody has to buy brand new cars

Fair point.I was shocked at how much car 2k can buy you.I know what I will do if I ever have to go back to buying my own car.

Buy a brand new 13k car to save a small amount on fuel but incure large depreciation?

As long as you are happy that's all that matters. You don't need the backing of the internet to be happy with your new purchase and you certainly don't need to justify yourself.

I'm sure you work hard for it so don't let anyone put you down, enjoy it :)

LOL.. I don't think he is buying it to save money, he's just said that with *cough* 78MPG it is just another factor that influenced him..

I suspect that he's been genuine when he says he just fancies a 'new' car..

What is ridiculous is the plain fact that all cars are a spectacular waste of money, and rarely does anyone make a sensible decision, or we'd all be driving the least depreciating, highest MPG, best performing models we can.. So when people are making their digs, is it a thinly veiled attempt to divert attention from the fact they'll probably be 'wasting' the same amount of money over 3 years as him? the only solice being that you may be doing the time in a better performing car..

Im not sure on the sole purpose of this purchase being the economy or not but one of the best models in the last fiesta range was the Zetec S TDCi (1.6 also), the power delivery was great and was lots of fun, this time around they've squeezed a little more performance out and also upping the economy.

I see it as a great car, which just happens to have brilliant economy, rather than just a tool to use because it gets 70 odd mpg.

(you'll get around 65mpg if you drive well)
