HIya guys,

Can someone recommend a top notch AGP card as my now dated Gainwood Ultra 6600U needs to be replaced!

I cannot afford a new MoBo/CPU ect ect at the moment, so the best AGP card I can lay my hands on would be brilliant, as I have the Dell S2409W 24" Widescreen coming tomorrow, and I want to get the best out of it ;)

Chris

off the top of my head the PSU I cannot remember, but its a new one, about 2 months ago, cost me £100!! lol its a really nice one, and I cant for the life of me rememeber what its called!"!!!

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3850 is where I thought of going :)

Unfortunately with that CPU you will be heavily bottlenecked even at that res and I'd hazard a guess that the you'll struggle with most things I don't really know if it's worth bothering with IMO.

mhhh thats not good news :(

So it will be even worse with the 6600u gfz card then?

even the fastest cpu for this MoBo which is not obviously made anymore will set me back a good £100.00 from places that have it

I hate to ask but........ lol

Say I was to update the System, I can I HOPE keep my old Lian Li Case? I would like a decent MoBo, with decent GFX card, good amount of ram, so how much is it goin to cost?

Oh it'll murder the 6600 by miles!

What CPU can you get for 100? Bit steep for Skt 939 considering you can get an AMD quad for that on AM2.

I wouldn't bother really. Even if you get the 3850 you will then start looking at a new CPU/motherboard and what you going to do with the card then ? I would say try to get a cheap x1950pro 512mb. I usually say 7600 GT 256mb but the extra vram will help with a 24"

I still think it's better to do a full upgrade.

Wait until you get a new setup. A new card will simply transfer the bottleneck to something else, and then you'll have to go 775/AM2 and get a PCI-E card anyway. Save your cash, wait to see if January drops the prices a bit.

ok so, as were looking at upgrading now lol....

What am I looking at money wise?

Say I had a limit of £700.00 but I did not need a Monitor, and I brought a new 750 PSU only 2 months ago, what would I get? would it be reasonable?

I have a Lian Li Case thats about 4 yrs old, is that going to need replacing too?

I would like to get a SATAII HD but can I also attach my old Sata HD as well?

if someone could spare a few mins to spec me something decent :)

Oh cool! I didn't realise murdering was measured in miles! :D

I'd go for a new system. Intel quads are pretty cheap these days too. A 'budget' computer on AM2 or S775 will be a lot better than what you've got now.

You'll still be able to use your bringed PSU, :p, and everything else. It depends what case you've got, but it should work really.

Any idea what case you've got? Pictures? Model number?

If it's a standard ATX case, and fits your PSU fine, it should pretty much fit any ATX motherboard.

If you want to spend £700, you be able to get yourself some nice stuff with £50 to spare, you could even go for 8GBs of RAM if you wanted to spend the whole £700 :D:

EDIT: Oops, I forgot the DVD drive! Do you have a DVD drive already? If you've got a SATA one there's no need to get a new one really.
