What LGA775 air cooler?

Another vote for the TRUE here, got the black version and ran it on my q6600 at 3.6ghz with 2x 400-1500 rpm, pwm fans. Lapped both the TRUE and cpu and changed the fans to 2x 2000 rpm sharkoons, run via a fan controller which enabled me to get the cpu to 3.8ghz.

You're kidding? £40 for something that's faulty?
Hey Kingy, take no notice, a few people got some TRUE's with a substandard base and then web rumour took over, before you know it the stories get more and more exaggerated and people like you looking to pick up a great cooler get the fear!

The Thermalright Ultra Extreme is defacto, has been for a long time, so good I don't even use a fan of mine. I just bought a new one last week for a new build and I noticed there has been a lot more attention paid to the bundle, tube of their new thermal paste too which is a bonus. I literally unpacked and threw the machine together, no fussing and it's works exactly as expected, very happy with the purchase from OcUK.

Here's a screenshot I just took while typing this post, PC has been folding on one core for a few days, not seen it go higher than 43°C yet, even core temps too!

I have mounted it before on a friend's puter, and while a bit awkward its actually quite good. It uses the push-pin mounts in a very effective way...lots of clamping force.
This was on a P5Q-E, it only fits in 1 direction and is a tight fit....on another board with less "stuff" around the socket it would be much easier.

It also comes with a nice fat tube of Tuniq TX-2.

I picked up a tube of that Tuniq TX-2 on your recommendation also, seems ok, bit melted ice cream compared to the stodgy AS5 but seems to work nice!

Yeah, its a bit less viscous. I got used to some really liquidy metal XSPC paste and have actually come to prefer the less stodgy pastes.

I don't think the Xigmatek is as good as the TRUE, used both so user feedback not an opinion based on a 3rd party review.

Of course the TRUE is better than the Xigmatek, that's why it's more expensive!

The Fan mounting system on the Xigmatek is aweful, aweful, aweful, aweful! :

If you fit the heatsink to your board outside the case (or perhaps u have a removable mobo tray) then you will have better luck. Anyone who installs a heatsink once the mobo is already installed will have severe problems trying to attach the Xigmatek 120mm PWM fan.

Well if you want top performance I would go with a TRUE with two Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 in push - pull config... thats about as good as you can get air cooling wise before you start to use man fans :)
Couldnt agree more, found the sharkoons to be a great fan for the TRUE. Have 2 on mine and another 3 in the case, pretty loud at full speed so i shudder to think what a few "man fans" sound like at full pelt:D

Sharkoon 2000's - whats the noise like on two of em then?

Main reason I'm trying the Xigmatek is that it cost me £12.... can't blame me for trying for that price can ya?

More than likely in the new year I'll look to get a TRUE Black and a pair of fans.

at full speed they are noticable although in my book not that loud! if you are gamming with sound on you wouldnt notice them.. at 1000RPM they are silent.. so as long as you have some fan control (something like speedfan) you can run them silently day-2-day and just ramp the speed up if your doing anything really CPU intensive

I have 5 in total, silent eagle 2000's in my rig now. For a few weeks i ran 2 on my TRUE at full speed, the noise was pretty noticeable. Added another 3 of them, 2x intake, 1x exhaust. The cooler fans are now controlled by an akasa junior fan controller and case fans via bios fan control which makes things a lot quieter, my raptor hdd's are far louder:)

Off Topic:

I like the Sharkoon fans, bought tons of them now as you always know what to expect.

I don't use the 120mm SE2000's anymore as for me they are too loud (a good loud but noticable), they seem a great choice though if connected to a fan controller or similar.

The 120mm SE1000's seem just right for me! :)

I know what you mean:D ran 2 of them for a while at 2000rpm while waiting on another 3 and a fan controller to be delivered, was never so happy to see the postie arrive with a package, saved my poor ears:)
