I would just like to thank you all for the great help you have been over the last few days.
I have had so many great suggestions it's been a tough decision but after reading maybe 100+ professional reviews.
I have decided to go with the following.

Asus Maximus II Formula P45 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.83GHz EO stepping

Thermalright TRUE Black 120 CPU Cooler With 2 fans

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB

Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB)

Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB Hard Drive

Thermaltake ToughPower 850W Modular Power Supply

Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Full Tower Case

Variouss small irems

Total £1259.25 With Next day delivery

You will be seeing a fair bit of me from now on as I want to learn about overclocking and I know I can get good advice here.

Thanks again all.

Neil

Oh no! It's not compatible!

Joking. :P

Seems fine though.

 Please don't freak me out like that, :D

Thanks, im going to have fun putting it together,

I think im going to lap the cpu and cooler first though,
got some good tips in the oc forums. so will give that a try.
I'll test the chip first though, to see if it works before I void the warrantee.

I really don't see much point in lapping your brand new stuff, at best it gives a minimal improvement in cooling but you got no chance of returning the item if it where to break. Just get some good cooling paste and you will be good to go.

Lap the heatsink. Plenty of point in doing that. Lapping the CPU IHS isn't going to do much (but I'm still going to do it).

Ive heard that the true black can sometimes have a dodgy base and if it isnt flat i will definitely do that, cant do it much harm,

You might be right about the cpu mind, I've ordered arctic silver thermal compound. lots of people recommend that ive seen.
