What benefits of these additions?

I have recently put together my first rig (check the specs in my sig) but already I am itching to upgrade further (mainly due to the fact that when I chose "Optimal Settings" on Crysis Warhead it set me to gamer rather than enthusiast!!! Damn you Crysis!)

What I want to know is; what would you upgrade first and what % increases would you expect to see in i) boot-up time (of PC in general, and apps) ii) FPS in demanding games iii) Anything else you can think of.

I am thinking of adding the following:
Another 4870X2 to have in Crossfire (although I have read that the improvements over a single 4870X2 are marginal in a lot of games)
Another 300GB WD Raptor to RAID 0, or an equivalently priced SSD
A 1TB Storage drive
Another 6GB of RAM

I have only got an 850W Zalman PSU providing juice at the moment so think I would have to bump that up to 1000W+ (was thinking of a Thermaltake Tough power 1200W but don't know yet)

So tell me, what would you prioritize and why?

Unless you are into willy waving, personally I think you'd be wasting your money. Don't let the poor, inefficient coding of Crysis dictate your hardware requirements. If your system plays any other game at the highest resolution and at the highest settings without any compromise, then there is no feasible reason to change anything. I'm still running an 8800GTX and it still plays everything smoothly and at the highest settings. I have no desire to upgrade until I have to start playing around.. and with the settings :p

Another raptor to RAID 0 might be worth it.. I couldn't justify any of the other suggestions though. One 4870x2 alone should play anything flawlessly even at 2500x1600. As for another 6Gb of RAM.. well 6Gb is enough already.

Spend your money on Christmas presents....not needless upgrades.

Nothing there is going to give you noticeable extra performance. One 4870X2 is enough for me to play Crysis @ 1920x1200, max detail, 4xAA, so I don't see why you need another one :)

Crysis hates multi gpu setups's I think so having 4 of them wont help much
The upgrades would not be JUST for Crysis. I want to see an overall performance increase = Boot time, load times, encoding etc. The Crysis settings were just an example.....albeit a bad one.

P.S. I have never willy waved without feeling the benefits.

as per my previous post - don't wate your money!!

Ifyou are experiencing poor performance on one of the fastest available systems at the moment, then you may have a problem with the system.

Definitely not poor performance, just not as good as it could be I imagine.

Money is not a problem, I have got £1000 to spend and it may as well be on PC bits.

Buy a watercooling setup? A new screen?

I really can't see that you could noticeably improve performance here.

Maybe wait for the GTX295 to come out.

Now that's an idea....

Are the kits on OcUK any good?

If you've got £1000 to spend you may as well do it yourself, as all a kit really gives you is a little peace of mind and an instruction book. Additionally, a custom setup will give you the best performance and least noise.

I have never fitted a water cooling system so the instructions and peace of mind might not be such a bad thing. How much would decent water cooling setup cost? £250?

It's not that important really; there are a lot of experts on this forum and the basic principles of watercooling are very simple - buy the same size barbs/tubing, connect them together carefully, bleed the system and hey presto.

£250 is about right for a decent setup; presumably you'd be looking at cooling your CPU and GPU?
