Read up a bit on the 3l engine in the 530... the "efficient" one :)

Was just wondering if it's the same one in the 330? I think a 530 would be a considerable amount more to insure.

Talking of which, I'm 19 with one years NCB. I currently pay £96 a month for the rover 400... when do you think it'd be insurable for a smiliar cost?

Reason behind all this was I had a scout round one, and they are beautiful cars. :)

Same generation BMWs share the same engines.

Typically the 5 series is cheaper than the "equivalent" 3 series to insure, probably due to image and target audiences.

As for insurance for yourself, probably when you are 21.

£96pcm is what, £1100 a year, the 530i will be rather a lot more to insure.

Having said that I can get a e34 528i for £1200 on insurance with 0NCB and 1 fault accident in the past 3 years.

I take it you mean the e39 and not the e34? The car itself will be rather a lot, even a half decent e34 goes for around £3k-£4k at the moment from what I've seen.

OP, why don't you just run a few insurance quotes and adjust your age?

Oh, and there are plenty of BMW fanbo...i mean enthusiasts on here, not just Fox ;)

Didn't do an E34 528i (in the UK anyway)

Ah, ok. I've been looking at the e36 3series and so assumed that when they changed from the 325i to 328i in 1996 that they did with the 5series too...which it looks like they did but they brought it in as the e39 rather than keeping it the same model number as they did with the 3 series. :)
